"ACLU Position
Given the reference to "a well regulated Militia" and "the security of a free State," the ACLU has long taken the position that the Second Amendment protects a collective right rather than an individual right. For seven decades, the Supreme Court's 1939 decision in United States v. Miller was widely understood to have endorsed that view."

Here's why:
https://www.amazon.com/Second-Amend...preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch
Here is the problem: What is a "collective" right? Are there any other examples of "collective" rights versus individual rights in American jurisprudence vis-a-vis constitutional law beyond the idea of the right of individual to keep and bear arms?
I'm a member. They have defended the right to protest by Nazis. Not a position I would take, but I still send them money. They have a mission, it's important, and they spend a lot more time doing things like helping immigrants Trump is torturing than they do helping the NRA.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) defended the National Rifle Association (NRA) by opposing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s attempts to put the gun advocacy group out of business.

NRA v. Cuomo - ACLU Amicus Brief
I would guess that the ACLU is going to get major blow back over this Amicus brief.
https://www.aclu.org/legal-document/nra-v-cuomo-aclu-amicus-brief
If the ACLU is not getting "major blow back" then they aren't doing their jobs. The most important rights to defend are not the most popular but the least.
The ACLU's track record MAINLY has been defending or pushing for the expansion of "rights" that are useful in reshaping the USA into a collectivist society. They have been MAINLY reticent about defending rights that are best used by those trying to oppose collectivism. The ACLU is very quiet about the fact that the right of association also includes a right not to associate
it will side with women trying to force their way into men only private clubs but they won't defend the Boy scouts trying to prevent gays or atheists from being scout leaders.
I don't think I'll step off the cliff into a long discussion well outside my limited expertise. I'll just stick to my basic view that the best role of the ACLU is to stand up for unpopular rights.
They have over the last few years been demised by getting into partisan politics, which as we split and prepare for Civil War was a terrible idea.
If you are not keeping up too bad for you.

But you were secretly hoping they wouldn't so you could complain about it.
They have also engaged in strong arm tactics to get their way. Can't say I'm a big fan of the organization. They have over the last few years been demised by getting into partisan politics, which as we split and prepare for Civil War was a terrible idea.

So does taking children with you on the comission of a crimeChild abuse, and a violation of international law.
Torture
verb
1.
inflict severe pain on.
synonyms:inflict pain on, ill-treat, abuse, mistreat, maltreat, persecute
Taking very young children from their parents easily meets the definition.
Oh the drama... "torturing" What you mean is enforcing our immigration laws.
You are calling criminal aliens migrants and they are bringing minors with them while committing a crimeActually he eased on his mistreatment of migrants, thanks to groups like the ACLU. Of course, Sessions conveniently decided to change the law so they couldn’t get asylum. Nice guy. Too bad Trump doesn’t appreciate the dirty work Jeff does for him.

Can't say I pay close attention to them either. They are free to defend whoever they want. I just don't buy into their holler than thou statusTo much money and dreams of glory sure did a number on them...I cant say when they went sour as I dont pay that much attention but I gather it was after the NAACP and Poverty Law Center.
You wouldn't take the position that Nazis have the legal right to protest? Why? This is a basic right that Americans have, and should be upheld regardless of how awful their ideas are, or what they are protesting. If we don't beleive in rights like freedom of speech and freedom to assemble when these rights are used by people with bad ideas, then we don't beleive in them at all.
While most will agree on this, I don't consider today's "Nazis" anywhere near what they originally were.
Sure they say inflammatory things, but most are nothing but fools trying to live the past (and dead) glory of their beloved Third Reich.
Whereas if they actually studied its start they would merely fit into the category of the brown shirts.
Bully boys not worth much else.
Much less building an empire.
Real effective Nazis are extinct.
...and that is a good thing.
Those that call themselves Nazis now are just idiots with a megaphone.
EXAMPLE: I have an historically accurate Russian sniper uniform and very accurate Mosin Nagant rifle. That does not make me a Vasili Zaitsev.
I could buy a horse and a short bow, but that don't make me no Comanche.
Those idiots are not really Nazis, they just call themselves that.
Any real Nazis are in their 80's and 90's by now.
So does taking children with you on the commission of a crime

Many youngsters and those uninformed about ACLU never knew that in the last century the ACLU also defended a group in Skokie IL. It was an affiliate of the US Nazi party, and they wanted to have a parade. It was 1978.
Though I disagree with some of their positions, I support the organization for defending the Bill of Rights.
Their defending the NRA is consistent with being politically incorrect.
As I stated earlier, the ACLU is not defending the NRA on 2nd Amendment grounds, but rather the 1st Amendment.
