It is getting towards the Holiday Season and with that comes the forever "War on Christmas"..

Is this a Real War or is it just that some Christians simply cannot deal with the separation between church and state?

We are a secular Nation. I don't think the issue is very important politically or socially. Maybe we get too PC sometimes tho.

Look up who's doing the suing. It's not who you think.

It's become a tradition like Santa and Christmas trees, I think we should dedicate a seasonal song to it. :2razz:

Some people don't understand separation of church and state, and some take it too far  dickheads will be dickheads.

Dude. Some people don't understand that modern Christmas celebrations have frankly little, if anything, to do with Christ these days.

Christ was a borderline communist given his economic views. To think he'd support this massive overconsumption of capitalist material wealth is pretty loony. Not to mention it's not even close to his birthday. And so many rituals are pagan. Forget the Church and state issue. Let's deal with the ugly fact that Christmas is a worship of Corporate income statements and spending money to compensate for neglecting each other during the rest of the year.

It still holds meaning for religious people, regardless that it has become a symbol of commercialisation, or the origins of the symbolism, or that Jesus was never considerate enough to throw a birthday party so that people could remember when it was, it's a meaningful day for millions of people, it's a celebration of the origin of their religion. The US constitution is no less meaningful for that it is the sum of various works of philosophy, and neither are the Christmas traditions for being the sum of pagan traditions.

It is still an important day for a lot of people, and should be respected for that, regardless of what faults people perceive in it.

Check the brief for a good attorney,
Fa la la la la, la la la la
'Tis the season to be surly,
Fa la la la la, la la la la
Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Troll the bitter angry carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
See the Pagan feast before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Burn the tree and join the chorus.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Follow me in hating Christians,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
While I tell of militant atheists,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Fast away the opium of the masses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Sing we Capitalists, all together,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Heedless of the debt and excess,
Fra la la la la, la la la la.

The fact that people are saying that we're approaching that time of year two-and-a-half months beforehand tells you something too. Christmas has become a celebration of almost everything materialistic and virtually nothing spiritual, I can't really see the connection with the Christian message anymore.

It still holds meaning for religious people

I know some Christians who don't celebrate it due to what it's become.

regardless that it has become a symbol of commercialisation, or the origins of the symbolism, or that Jesus was never considerate enough to throw a birthday party so that people could remember when it was, it's a meaningful day for millions of people, it's a celebration of the origin of their religion. Not sure about that last part. Christmas traditions are not really meaningful in the context of Christ.

It is still an important day for a lot of people, and should be respected for that, regardless of what faults people perceive in it.

Perhaps so, but we should also be realistic as to what it has become.

I thought Christmas was a time of "oh crap, gotta buy stuff for people" then the exciting day approaches where you unwrap your crappy and useless gifts. Of course, there is the attending of parties for people you barely know and the relatives you don't really like. Also, there is the fact that decorations are put out in department stores some time mid Oct and by the time Christmas rolls around, they are all broken down and dirty. Or perhaps its the same songs and tv shows all the time, with A Christmas Story slowly encompassing all of the other shows where it turns into a 2 month long movie marathon of that one movie.

Christmas is becoming the suck. It probably would be better if we scaled it back 90% and used it to focus on the good things in life (such as Christ if you are inclined that way, or if not, just being around family and friends).

There is a neat and tidy solution to this. Every household, business, and government office decorates however they damned well please. Everyone who complains gets shot in the face.

I'm an atheist and I think Xmas is great. Honestly, its not a big deal to me if people view it as a consumer holiday(consumption is a good thing for the economy and jobs), or a time to celebrate the birth of Christ. It's better to celebrate something, rather than nothing at all. Anybody who is offended by the words Merry Xmas or Happy Holidays, two phrases meant to spread goodwill amongst men, needs to be(as Kori just stated) shot in the face( with something a little more powerful than a Red Ryder BB gun).

That would probably work:2razz::lol::mrgreen:

Offending people isn't against the law (at least not in the US [correction: in most states]).

What is illegal is using tax payer money to favor a particular religion.
