About that confederate flag

Its a good debate. We need more of this kind of thing in our schools.
 
Opposition to a confederate flag is a clear indicator that you just completely miss the big picture.

These are the flags of the Confederacy. Some included stars for border states the rebels hoped would join.

The flag that causes problems is the Confederate battle flag, originally flown by Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.

When your house is burned down and family members lynched by guys carrying confederate flags, or if you’re battered by skin heads sporting confederate flags on their bomber jackets, that’s a problem.

So, you're supporting the fringe's attempt to co-opt a much larger regional symbol?

You know those same groups also fly a lot of AMERICAN flags. Do you hate the Amercian flag for hte same reason?

The American flag is a symbol for freedom
for all.
The Confederate flag was carried by traitors who wanted to own human beings.
It then became a symbol of segregation and it’s use became more widespread and more violent especially after the Brown v. Board of Education decision. Southern states resisted federally-mandated integration and incorporated the flag into their official symbolism.
In the 1970s and 80s, Nazi Skins incorporated the symbol into their violence.
Now you see it prominently displayed at MAGA rallies.

It's remarkable that those respectable flag wavers seem to have no problem with "the fringe" co-opting it.
 


If your time line is your real belief then explain the nation wide success of the tv show DUKES OF HAZZARD.

And when they released the movie, the flag was removed from the top.
The 80s Rockabilly scene in England sported the confederate flag on their regalia.
Societial views change when people become aware of history and historical context.

No, your timeline had it as "traitorous" followed by "violence ...segregationists" followed by "nazi skinheads.

It that was true, the show would never have even been aired, and if it was, it would have been a scandal.


The nation wide success proves that at least in the 80s and 90s, it was accepted as a harmless symbol of regional pride.

Nope. According to his timeline, and his timeline is pretty close to the nonsense that all lefties spew,

there was never a time when teh confederate flag was accpeted by the nation as a whole.

Yet, we can see that in 80s, it was accepted by the nation as a whole.

THat by itself disproves the left's claims about the flag.


I've asked him to defend his assertions in light of htis evidence and he has failed to do so.

The greatest number of people still thinking the Confederate battle is a symbol of oppression are white liberals trying to find a purpose to their lives, a reason for their self-rightgeousness outrage over something that happened more than 150 years ago. Give it up libs, that flag has long ago become a symbol of regional pride, not a military symbol of insurrection.
