How can people 'own' land? The land is eternal - it was here before us, it will be here after us. How can people claim land for their own?

So the Indians weren't selfish. It worked out well for them, when that's all there was. But unfortunately it didn't work out well when the Europeans came along.

The Native Americans also had many other "wise" beliefs and customs, of course. For example, when the tribe was without food, no one would eat. Not even the chief.

Some would say that the Natives weren't so wise, as they were taken advantage of, and defeated. In response I would just say take a look at how they were defeated.

Is anyone proud of Manifest Destiny?

Because we define the reality of mankind, just as the Native Americans did 200 yrs ago. The descision to incorporate ownership is somewhat recent, but only to this area of the world.....and only in the perception of those who were here when colonists arrived. Land ownership is a part of Human society.....deal with it...or I will simply take your land for my own.

Oh great, another anti-private property thread... (Waiting on the 1st use of the S word.)

you'll never have true ownership of property untill you don't have to pay property tax.

try not paying it, and see how prive your property is

thats the great thing about SOCIALISM...blah blah blah...

The Indians here in Oaxaca still follow this wisdom and the land "belongs" to the village. Two years ago the men from one village killed 26 men from the neighboring village over a land dispute. Wise.
