Just came across President Obama's "Save Award" program where he invited Federal employees to submit cost-saving ideas on line. The winner for 2010 is to be announced shortly. Save Award 2010 - by IdeaScale

Why not a similar website for cost-saving ideas from the general public? One that would be reviewed and commented on by a special committee designed to implement the best ones?

My first idea would be:

Incentivize Medicare fraud investigators by giving them a % of the savings their fraud investigations uncover.

Do you have any?
What do you think of this idea?

I think it would be a good idea.

Only problem is the vast majority of Ideas would look something like this:

"CUT ALL ENTITLEMENTS NOW FOR THE PARASITIC MASSES!!!!!!"

And then when something is cut they like it will look like this:

"WHY DID YOU CUT X. IT IS USEFUL BECAUSE OF Y!"

Isn't that pretty much what happened with that republican website that was launched about 6 months ago? It basically got nothing but stupid ideas?

Hold on, I am trying to find it. I think it was done over the summer if my memory serves.

Here it is Home – America Speaking Out

Thanks for this. I actually posted my idea on it.

I'd envision something more interactive. Like actually getting comments back from someone who'd actually read it and evaluated it. And, yikes! That they'd actually implement some of them.

Welllll, GR8T!!!!!! Hahahahahaha!!! I submitted my idea and the whole thing went kerflewie. I'm sure it didn't post. And now the website's down. Oh, okay, now it's working. But my idea got lost in the maze. Shall try again. Ha!

I like the idea behind such a website, but there are dozens of posts from hacks who are just as bad as some of the people here. Unfortunately, such a website is going to attract people like that.

Has good ideas.
You vote or give suggestions on what you want cut. The Rep. bring it to the floor for a vote.
Go to bottom of page and see what has been brought to floor so far and see how Dems and Rep. voted. Go to home page to vote for new ideas.
Maybe after Jan this website will actually be useful.

I doubt it would be useful. The amount of time and energy it would take to sift through all the terrible ideas that would no doubt be submitted to find one or two useful ones would probably cost more than would be saved.

I thought this was a good idea and a good start. Too bad the dems voted against it. Maybe they'll bring it back for another up or down vote once the Dems won't have the majority.

Eliminate Federal Employee Pay Raise

As part of his FY 2011 Budget submission President proposed raising federal civilian pay by 1.4% beginning in January of next year. This will be on top of the 2.0% raise federal civilian employees received this past January, the 3.9% raise they received the previous January, and the 3.5% raise they received the January before that. Freezing federal civilian pay at the current level for one year would save approximately $2 billion next year and $30 billion over ten years.
