The sound quality here is fantastic! This was performed in Asbury Park NJ in July of '77(by the band that was named after their high school gym teacher), a year after they hired new 3rd lead/rhythm guitarist & backup singer, Steve Gaines(shorter hair, short beard, white t shirt).
Despite being a large band(10 members), their timing is spot on, and their skill is impressive! All 3 guitarists take turns playing rhythm AND lead. Original guitarist Gary Rossington(long black hair, open, long sleeve shirt over black T shirt) plays slide guitar as well. Original guitarist Allen Collins(long, bushy blondish hair & white long sleeve t shirt with black sleeves) plays great lead & rhythm here too.
In the 3rd song(You Got That Right), Steve Gaines and lead singer Ronnie Van Zant take turns singing, which isn't something that occurred b4 Steve was hired. He was hired to take the place of original 3rd guitarist Ed King, who quit in '75. But Steve began doing some singing, and songwriting, and Ronnie thought he was going to be something special, that he would eventually "leave the rest of us behind"!
Unfortunately, their chartered plane ran out of fuel and crashed into a Mississippi pine swamp forest, killing singer Ronnie, guitarist Steve Gaines, and Steve's sister Cassie, one of their 3 female backup singers(who got her brother the job). The rest of the band were badly injured. The 2 pilots died, as did a roadie and another support personnel.
