Which of these activities performed by a teacher when he/she isn't working would move you to contact the principal or school board and report the teacher for inappropriate behavior?

Choose as many as you'd like.

Nothing illegal, so that leave out weed

Things that do not show a good moral character should not be done in public where their students might see.

I did not respond to the poll because there was not an option I could agree with. There are some things a teacher might do in their private life that should be reported, but these weren't among them.

Smoking pot, as it is illegal. I would report them for breaking the law and encourage the school to preform random drug screenings.

Would you report the teacher if he/she was doing ANYTHING illegal? Breaking traffic laws?

They could do whatever they wanted in their own time, even weed.
As long as they were a good teacher I could care less

I could careless. Hell I have taken shots with professors after a rough day or a painful test. As long as their actions don't affect how they preform in the classroom then let them do as they please.

I would agree with the added caveat "so long as they dont bring it into their classroom".

I dont care if a teacher smokes pot provided that the topic and use not come up in the class.

Depends on the traffic law. If it's just a speeding misdemeanor than no. If they are driving drunk and I knew about it I would report anyone.

Provided that an employee's after-hours activities don't impact their ability to perform their job, it is no business of the employer or anyone else. If the teacher had a medical marijuana prescription in my state, none of the stated behavior would be grounds for termination.

None of the things listed are any indication that this person would not be an excellent teacher. I don't care what they do in with their personal time as long as it doesn't affect their ability to do their job.

I didn't choose any on the list, but I do think that teachers in grade school/highschool especially should be held to some kind of morals clause -- and many of them are. Conviction of certain felonies would do it for me -- even if probation were allowed. Stalking, sex crimes. TRO's for cause. An affair with a student. Those kinds of things.

If a school would hire a person that had a sex crime the person making those decisions should be locked away for sheer stupidity.

I agree. It's about what happens AFTER they're hired I'm talking about.

I wouldn't report any of these things to the boss. If a company wishes to impose a moral code then that is their business and they should be allowed to. However it is not my business as an employee what a fellow coworker does, I do not work for the company when I am off the clock.

So long as the teacher wasn't doing anything illegal or doing anything that would directly interfere with their ability to teach, it's none of anyone's damn business what they do on their own time. However, when it comes to illegal things, like drugs, it doesn't matter if they're a teacher, anyone I found doing those things would get reported, not to the school, but to the proper legal authorities.

If the teacher is doing any illegal drugs more serious than weed I'd report them. But if they are coming into work smelling or looking like they've been smoking weed, I'd report that as well.

Only things I would report is drug use and any crime that is a felony. Otherwise what they do is up to them. My kids come before any teachers wants.

Presently smoking marijuana is a crime.

Other than that, it probably doesn't matter. The teacher, however, is a role model for her students, and she should be held to a higher standard of conduct than your garbageman. So they can look at porn, but shouldn't be posing on bangyourteacher.com.

Drinking is legal, but if the broad's an alcoholic and she's coming to work hung over or otherwise inappropriately, she should be out on the street the same day.

Having a cell phone is legal. Teachers should not be allowed to answer their cells while in class. To make sure that happens, they should be fired if they fail to turn their phone in to the office when they come in to work in the morning.

There's the occasional article in the news about a mutant teacher that gets a sex change and wants to resume teaching the class it left. No, the children don't need that kind of confusion in their lives. The thing should be transferred to a different class once it's mental illness is treated.

I Chose smoking pot, but even im not entirely sure if i agree with that. Teachers have their own personal lives and frankly they have every right to do as they please, as grown adults they know what is right and wrong, and choosing to do the wrong has consequences. these consequences do not need to be shared with the boss unless it directly effects the boss, smoking pot has certain situations where reporting would be appropriate (Selling or holding on person)
but simply smoking it, while illegal, is none of the principals buisness

A child's teacher is an authority figure for that child and their actions have a definite impact on the developing morals of that Child. Anything that teacher does that you think would have a negative impact on your child should be reported. That being said, teachers deserve a private life. They should keep in mind, however, that their activities, if less than above board, should be kept under wraps.

The key word is private.
People should look up its meaning, evidently.
