The idea of a troop surge is not cutting it with many members of the GOP, nor with many members of the Republican base. Even in the reddest of red states, Bush's approval rating is barely above 50 percent, and in "average America", it is absolutely dismal. Same goes with John McCain. Just a couple of weeks ago, many here were bragging about his whipping Hillary Clinton big. Now, the latest poll finds him behind Hillary. The difference? His joining the Necons in supporting the proposed troop surge in Iraq.

This should sent a strong message to all Repubicans - Neoconservatism is dead and buried. The project for the New American Century is also being laid to rest. Those who still support this harebrained idea, which is now taking down the Bushneviks, do so at their own political peril. The American people are fed up with the irresponsibility and lack of thought and planning with the Iraq war. Want to see Hillary as our next president? No? Then Republicans had better start listening to the American people, because the American people no longer listen to them.

And about those members of the GOP who are not on the same page with the Bushneviks - Are you going to blovate that they ALSO support terrorsts?

Article is here.

DANARHEA,
I do not think you have the picture yet.
Admittedly Bush was wrong to start a war in Iraq, addmittedly he has since then made so many tactical mistakes that he has been shown to be an idiot.
Leaving Bush to one side (His ratings are no longer important).
What to do with regards to Iraq.
1) Pull all troops out, leave Iraq.
2) Remain as we are, trying to contain what is effectively a civil war.
3) Put in more troops either on a long or short term.
These are about the only 3 alternatives.
If we leave Iraq now, we will in effect be saying to the Terorists 'you have won'
If we do this, yes we will have no more casualties, but think of the damage it will do to the image of the US amongst all US allies in the ME, in effect we would be telling them that we cannot help them contain the Terrorists when the Terrorists go after them, make no mistake, that is precisely what these Terrorists will do.
So ok Hilary and McCain have low ratings, this is not really important at the moment.
What is important is what do we do in Iraq.
So what would you suggest?
