A SpaceX flight attendant said Elon Musk exposed himself and propositioned her for sex, documents show. The company paid $250,000 for her silence.

Bullshit.
Necessity is the mother of invention and the scenario you describe is unrealistic in the extreme.
Yes they would indeed be flying out of the showrooms all over the country, but STILL NOT at a rate that would equal the hysterical calamity you describe, which sounds like
"I woke up this morning and suddenly eighty million EV's were all stuck on the main drag outside my house with dead batteries"...all in the space of 24 hours!

Yeah, cars people like and can afford sell quickly but not as quickly as you make it sound.
They would enjoy the kind of sales any popular car enjoys, and the electric grid would expand in accordance with the various infrastructure bills that are being proposed, and
industry lobbyists would see to it that the right arms got twisted to make entreprenurial history.

And by the way, you may have missed the memo about the Salton Sea, which is now being referred to as "The Saudi Arabia of Lithium".
Also, battery technology is not trapped in amber like a prehistoric bug, it's a fast moving field with new developments popping up almost every week.
Lithium may be the coin of the realm right now but it's never going to be "THE LAST" one.
Making electricity from chemical reactions is a very wide field...for a very good reason.
Again, necessity is the mother of invention, and Musk is by far NOT the only individual investing in EV technology, which sort of pops holes in the luddite doom and gloom predictions
you're setting forth.

And even if HE can't deliver, that doesn't mean others won't.
If it kills HIS business it will be because he preferred selling expensive playthings instead of selling affordable cars, not because it wasn't possible.
New England has brown outs every year due to not being able to keep up with electricity demands. Just heard on NPR today how ALL of the west is going to have rolling black outs during peak times this summer due to decreased hydro generation, and increasing demand.

Now, imagine that, WITH, let's say, 30% increase in EV ownership. That's like 30% of households buying an extra AC unit, and running it 16 hours per day, everyday, in addition to current electricity draw.

HOly ****ing dumb. that's what you focus on to a partisan. Imagine if we actually invested in solar, wind and other no oil and gas energy, and had more of that? Wouldn't have to worry about gas or hydro. But right wing assholes fought that now want to whine and blame democrats for rising energy and gas costs because you peopel jsut had to suck the D of the oil and gas companies

There is often a symbiotic relationship between "abuser" and "abused" in these circumstances. I don't put anything past anyone but it's not unheard of for a woman to accuse a wealthy man of something he didn't do, and maybe even entice him into something he probably knows he shouldn't do, if the potential payout is big enough.
that is like the worst pitch for "personal responsibility" that i've seen in a while.

Isn't it odd, how this is suddenly a big story... just after Certain Persons started abruptly hating Elon for wanting free speech on Twitter and being somewhat critical of left-extremists?

Not the first time I've seen this pattern.
are you on Twitter? do you see the crazy shit that is posted there?

beefheart goes up against the richest man in the world.....what a hero!
i wonder what happens when the richest man in the world goes up against St. Peter.

Companies don't pay settlements for bogus employee sexual harassment claims so this allegation likely has some basis in fact. Musk is an extremely immature and irresponsible CEO so it's not too much of a stretch to believe he engaged in this type of behavior. What is it with these jerks and their private planes?
Women make bogus claims all the time and companies pay them off to go away. It's not unusual and definitely not an indication of guilt.

The bad publicity can be more damaging than the fight is worth.

You are the one being defensive. But it's no surprise since this thread has failed so miserably. It was a nice try though. Just kidding. It was terrible right off the bat. Elon hurt your feelings so you just had to lash out to punish him...
beefheart goes up against the richest man in the world.....what a hero!
Feeling like a winner? You sure taught him a lesson didn't you?
His empire's gonna crumble now.
Wow, you really are just making sad posts.

I reported the news. BTW, I've done dozens of Sexual Harassment investigations in my career, when you have a confidential payoff to the victim, that really says something. You don't pay someone off because you are 100% sure of your innocence.

And all conservatives are victims... and are terrible at sarcasm and humor.
Just like all libs are genius intellectuals who practice what they preach...

That's simply a misogynistic comment ungrounded from reality.

My usual reply to "are you on Twitter" is "No, I am not a Twit." :)

The signal-to-noise ratio on the Internet in general, including DP, is not exactly inspiring. I waste enough time on social media as it is without adding Twits to it.

My point is that this story has been out there for some while it seems... but suddenly it is in the mainstream news where before it was not. Some subgroup of the media has decided to trash Elon's reputation now, because lately the mostly-liberal Elon has committed heresy and he must be excommunicated from the Church of Woke.

This is so funny. One day Elon Musk is a liberal hero because he makes electric cars, pays a lot of taxes, creates a lot of jobs and believes in free speech.
Then he says something liberals don't like and he's the most evil human being on the planet. Hilarious.

When was he a liberal hero?

He comes from Apartheid emerald mines. He treats his employees like shit. He's always been a scumbag.

1. Electric cars

2. Relative lack of criticism from the left until he tried to buy Twitter.

And he pays a lot of taxes to fund socialism.
Dems only want free speech on Twitter for dems. Now that Republicans might get it, they are crying like babies.

1. Electric cars are less energy efficient. All that power has to come from somewhere, and batteries degrade fairly quickly. They burn like mad bastards on occasion, so I guess from a schadenfreude POV, they're not ALL bad.

2. "Relative lack of criticism" means we all loved him?

Not as much as he's gonna.
Great idea. Let's do everything we can to encourage him to move his businesses and jobs out of the US. Classic liberal stupidity.

Yeah? So if you’ve got an opportunity to settle for $250k and get a guaranteed outcome versus a jury trial with no guarantee other than a million in litigation costs and the potential for a 10 figure decision against you, it’s a better deal not to settle?

Do you know that porn is posted on Twitter?

No, but I'm not entirely shocked: the internet is awash in porn. Avoiding it takes some care in security and browser settings.

The thing is, for me at least, I don't really care much about Twitter. I don't use it and I don't plan to.

I just think it is telling that suddenly, there are all these news articles about Elon-is-scum whereas a year ago there was very little mainstream criticism of him.

Maybe he is. I don't know the man. I value him for Space X and how SX is revolutionizing space travel in ways I've been hoping for since the early 80s.

Doesn't mean I agree with everything he says or does or that I worship him. I'm just noting that Elon was always considered more-or-less a liberal, or at least center-left, and now suddenly everyone is talking about what scum he is... but all this started because he "broke kayfabe" with the Left over Twitter.

Have you tried getting mad about it?

We don’t need jobs in the US. We can just print money. Democracy solves everything!

Nobody takes beefheart seriously anyways.

Have you tried getting mad about it?
Have you tried being smart about it? Nope, your party has so much hate in their hearts that nobody involved with it thinks clearly. Hate does that.
