Sometimes the solution for a problem is worse than the problem itself. Creating a Western European endorsed Grossedeutschland would be nigh on impossible. Not only would the Czechs, Balts, Ukrainians, White Russians and Poles oppose such a move with military force, but France and the U.K./Britain would oppose it too. Finally, the Russians would go to war if such a prospect emerged in their western near-abroad and that could easily escalate from a conventional war into a global thermonuclear exchange.
A far better idea, which runs parallel to your idea, is to create a Central European Treaty Organisation (CETO) which would replace NATO with regards to the first line of defence from an eastern attack against Europe. Germany would be the only country allowed membership in both the CETO and NATO alliances. NATO would be in charge of defending Western Europe, Scandinavia, the Altantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. CETO would be in charge of defending Eastern Europe up to the Russian border, the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. This would strengthen the ability of Central European states to defend themselves through collective action while keeping most Western European states, Canada and especially America far from the Russian near-abroad.
Eventually, if border disputes could be settled between Ukraine and Russia bilaterally, then even Russia could be considered for membership in CETO if a Eurasian military threat emerged from further east to threaten Russia.
