A (Re)-Introduction of sorts

Greetings,

This is a sort of introductory blog for those of you who are not very familiar with me, and kind of a catch up for those that have known me. I have been a member here for almost 6 years, and I was initially very active through the first 3-4 years. I was apparently well thought of enough to be made a moderator at one point. But life happens, college, kids, moves, and whatnot have kept me too busy to be an active participant in many threads on this forum. So this blog is something I hope to do to sort of throw my thoughts out there (the thinking never stops) because it seems like every interesting thread I see has 22 pages on the subject already and I don't have time each day to go make sure my point wasn't already made, and then endlessly argue it with the usual suspects. Feel free to comment on any blog I do put up, I promise to read them all, but I cannot promise lengthy responses....

So for a short explanation of my political beliefs. My lean is "fascist" but that is my ideal society. To explain it in simple terms, I believe that people have a duty to government and government has a duty to its people. Corporations are essentially groups of people who exist outside of government employment, so the same philosophy applies. Businesses of any size have a duty to their country and their country has a duty to create an environment that is healthy for them to grow. I am staunchly in favor of nationalism to the extent that it should be mandatory to have a population that is educated and proud of their culture and history.

In practice, I am more of a moderate or centrist, with a lean more towards the right than left. I don't believe my utopian society is achievable anywhere anytime soon. So I deal with what is, instead of bitching about what isn't. I am pro-life, but I also think gays should be allowed to marry. I am in favor of a society that arms itself, but see the need for social programs like social security and medicare. I prefer that we carry the big stick on the playground, with regards to foreign policy, but utilize it wisely and effectively. I am an atheist, but I honor and respect the idea of people who have faith that guides them to become a better person.

Like I said, this is short and simple just to introduce myself to the new legions who aren't familiar with me. Hopefully I will have enough time to put down a diatribe here every now and then.
