Here's a hypothetical. Let's suppose you've been tapped to speak at the Republican or Democratic national convention. You have time to prepare your speech. Chances are that you have access to professional speech writers to assist you.

You know that if you make statements that are counter to facts or make unsupported claims, you'll probably be called out for it. You know this in time to check your facts and claims.

That sets the scene. So far, so good.

If you go ahead and make statements that are counter to facts and/or make unsupported claims, why do you do it?

[Ed.: The situation is presented as a hypothetical. Yet, in all probability, we'll see and hear people speaking at the national conventions who make statements that are counter to facts and/or make unsupported claims.]

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

Because the people are you speaking to don't care and just want to hear you say what you said?

Hi!

Thank you for your response. If that be the case, does the person making the speech care about his'her own image, knowing that the statements counter to facts and the unsupportable claims will be specifically noted?

No because their image is still intact with 'their' people. A person like that doesn't care what the 'others' think of them.

Also, stay safe -n well yourself.

Hi again.

Thanks for the response. You may be right. That in turn suggests a downgrading of the group 'them' as compared to the general population.

Regards.
