Whenever noisy protest over the building and placement of nuclear weapons during the Cold War took place, for example the Greenham Common women, whyever were NO ORCHESTRATED DEMONSTRATIONS TAKING PLACE AT ALL outside the SOVIET embassy?

Just thought I'd ask. Alright, it's 2007 and I STILL have received no answer to that since 1991, but on I go asking it again......

And this is important because...

Well, the hippies couldn't really affect Soviet policy, could they?

So , therefore, in their dreams they wanted the West weak instead.

It was only after 1949 when the USSR acquired nukies that the Cold War 'proper' began. Before then there was no question of proposing nuclear missile launch against Russia, except in the event of a Russian invasion.

Too many people in the disarmament movement actually expressed a desire for 'class war' and 'victory of the urban proletariat'. 'Newspapers' like Militant and Morning Star sold rather well in hard left quarters.

No wonder they felt that it was the USSR which was the peresecuted and the US the oppressors.

(And I still chuckle when I remember that Reagan was the catalyst for ending the nuclear arms race by out-racing the Soviets and letting the economically bereft USSR collapse even further. And we know now that old Ronnie didn't complain too much about Lefties who portrayed him as a stupid gung-ho warmonger because he knew that such a portrayal freaked out the Ruskies further. Add to that Gorbachev's Glasnost and Prerestroika policies and you end up with no nuclear confrontation, no Soviet tyranny but no too many happy Lefties either. I met more than enough of them at college!)
