Amendment 2 Text: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Was this guy helping out the militia to secure the United States?

Chicago (CNN)A police officer, a doctor and a pharmaceutical assistant were killed after a Monday afternoon shooting at Chicago's Mercy Hospital, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.

The shooting was a domestic incident, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie T. Johnson said. The gunman's first victim was a woman with whom he had had a relationship, Johnson said.
The gunman, Juan Lopez, 32, also died, police said. It is unclear whether he died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Johnson said.

BTW, my sister-in-law works at this hospital. It was her day off.

No. He was a felonious piece of excrement....

The 2nd Amendment doesn’t protect criminals or allow criminal acts to be perpetrated or go unpunished.

There were 40,000 auto deaths in the US in 2017. You know, if someone posts every auto accident causing fatalities on DP as they post every gun fatality on DP, the cause to restrict auto use is gonna rise, also.

Darn right

Why next they will require licensing and registration of vehicles in order to drive. Then they will restrict what types of vehicles are allowed to be used "for safety".

An apple is an apple and an orange is an orange.

And the Second Amendment still protects an individual's right to possess a firearm--D.C. v. Heller.

You do realize that's a dumb thing to say when the auto industry, owners and drivers are HEAVILY regulated right? Are you suggesting firearms and owners of those firearms be subject to the same extreme regulation that autos and licenses are?

And the Second Amendment still protects an individual's right to possess a firearm--D.C. v. Heller.

And, has already been demonstrated many times over, the second amendment is not absolute as felons are not allowed to legally possess a firearm as well as a host of exceptions on firearm possession/purchase.

Nope he wasn't. In fact he was in violation of the 2nd Amendment as the 2nd Amendment is about self defense of self and country. What he did had nothing to do with self defense of either kind.

I'm glad your sister wasn't there, but that really is irrelevant to the fact that what this guy did IS illegal right here and now and always has been. Bad people are going to break the law. That is a simple fact. Enforce the law as best we can while ensuring people Rights. Otherwise we are no better than those that do bad.

This is not a Second Amendment issue. This is a criminal who abused his Right, of which there are laws against.

Now, had this case been about yet another guy with a history of a diagnosed mental illness, this would be a Second Amendment issue.

Supreme Court decisions come and go, but the text of the Second Amendment remains the same:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The intent of this statement is obvious, and states that a militia is necessary for the security of the United States, and that the citizens were that militia. The question that should be asked - Are armed citizens necessary for the military to keep the United States secure? - because that was the intent of the 2nd Amendment.

An apple is an apple and an orange is an orange.

It is just as much a valid comparison as making a comparison between what this guy did in that hospital and the 2nd Amendment. The second Amendment does not protect in any way shape or form what that guy did.

Actually no, it wouldn't be a second amendment issue as anyone with a history of a diagnosed mental illness is not allowed to own a gun.

Agreed. My reference to the 2nd Amendment is to show that it's misinterpretation and misrepresentation continues to be an obstacle to peaceful living in the United States.

I just found out that the slain officer is my colleagues friends Nephew.

Except that its not misinterpreted or misrepresented. Anyone that knows history knows this. Hell, Scalia even broke it down by grammar. Less than 1% of people in the US are harmed with guns. The vast majority are living in peace.

You're still missing the point.
Perhaps because you don't know what the ruling was about.
District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), is a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected with service in a militia, for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

Nobody thinks a felon's individual rights should be upheld.

And it's all a failure, if you are going to compare it to the accidental deaths from guns. Because with all of that you mentioned, cars still kill 3 times more people than are killed in gun accidents.

The rest are 2/3 suicides and then the rest intentional crime. So what regulations are going to stop those intentional acts?

BTW, my sister-in-law works at this hospital. It was her day off.

I'm glad she was not there and hope she is able to help others that were there deal with this trauma.

An apple is an apple and an orange is an orange.

Cuckolds have been killing their spouses and the 'other man/woman' and anyone that interfered for...ever.

Since the dawn of time. Guns made zero difference here.
