Ethics counsels from the Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama White Houses weigh in.

As lawyers responsible in recent White Houses for enforcing the rules against foreign government presents for presidents, we believe Donald Trump is transgressing them in the most brazen of ways. We’re not just talking about his apparent eagerness to accept an airplane valued at about $400 million from Qatar. His crypto entanglements are just as bad — perhaps even worse.

I care a lot less about a gift to the country of an airplane than I do about the billions upon billions of dollars wasted by the frivolous spending of Congress. Want to do something useful, cut the waste, fraud and abuse in our spending. Get those who do not qualify for government programs off those programs. Doing so would allow us to save money while providing more aid for those that truly do qualify.

How you going to feel when Congress approves the billion dollars to retrofit it and then decommisions it after a year or so of use?

Do you care about the millions it will take to properly disassemble the plane, to make sure it is safe and not bugged, then put it back together? All for what?

He is just blatantly violating all sorts of ethics standards. MAGAs don't care.

We'd also have to pay a bunch to upgrade it to contain some of the tech that Air Force 1 has, it can't be fully ruggedized but we would still have to pay to upgrade it with what can be done.

Trump's "big beautiful bill" would add trillions to the debt.

Qatar has been a key financial supporter of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, transferring more than $1.8 billion to Hamas over the years.

Yeah, I was probably underestimating at "millions".

MAGAs don't care. It all about the glory, gains, and power of Dear Leader. Nothing else matters.

I think they knew he'd be a self serving asshole, do you think they had any idea it would go this far?

His scams with Trump Org, pocketing charity money, Trump University and a lot of other ones were well publicized. His other character flaws... I think that was more than enough to know that there is NO limit as to how far he'll go.

Don't think it even takes a lawyer to see that this is total BS and absolutely corrupt.

They won't be able to retrofit it for use as AF1 in 3 years. And it'll cost a lot more than $1 billion.

Boeing has spent 9 years working on replacements for AF1, and they're not done.

It's cost around $3 billion per plane so far. And that project incurred a lot of those costs before inflation hit in 2022.

I tend to doubt that this plane will ever be AF1.

It never will be if the DoD et al demand the standards they have historically. However , I think it entirely possible they will abandon those standards in deference to his ego.

I don't think that they will. There's too much risk in letting him fly around in that gaudy thing. They'll send some last guy in the room to talk him out of it.

Aand right after that...

"Who cares if Trump is breaking the law as long as he raises the National Debt by $4T with his tax cuts for the rich!"
