It seems the problem is that with unification, the West German flag and anthem were adopted for the Germany and that has contributed to many former East Germans feeling never feeling truly included or equal. On that basis, it doesn't seem like a terrible idea to raise the possibility of replacing them both with something that could be seen as fully representative of everyone. Since some politicians appear to be shoving wedges in to those existing divisions for their own benefits, the idea could be seen as even more imminent than it has been in the past.what is wrong with Black Red and Gold?

That may well be your opinion but it seems some other Germans, especially in the East, feel differently. You can't really dismiss it as a mistake if it's a true representation of how they feel.the mistake here lies in thinking that the present flag and hymn represents West Germany only.
But it rather represents the democratic and united Germany, that weas dreamed of in the 1848 Revolution.
