If someone at school is bullying you, go to any pawn shop (there's one in every town) DO NOT GO TO THE RIFLE WALL, TURN AROUND and go to the OTHER wall, and buy one of these. You can purchase one at any age. There is no background check. They are cheap. There is no waiting period. You can open carry them anywhere. Take it home. Practice. Talk to other dorks that wear the same shirts you do. Start a band. Get loud. Scream about how rotten it is that everyone is against you and no one will sleep with you. Get it all out.

Guitar sucks. Play Trombone like a real man.

In principle I agree, but this is really deflecting from the central issue. The past 60 years has been a social experiment where young men are stripped of their fathers, numbed with sportsball and crappy music, and become addicts to porn with no sense of direction in life.

American society is a breeding ground for mass shooters

After 60 years of listening to loud endless guitar soloes if I never hear another guitar as long as I live ill be very happy.

Imagine how much better music would have been the last 70 years if it were not so dominated by the guitar.

NICE!! Looks like a Deluxe Reverb, maybe a Princeton amp.

My Tele is white with rosewood fretboard. I also have a Gretsch 6118, Guild Starfire II bass, and Takamine acoustic.

Ampwise I have a Supro, Epiphone 5w stack, and Fender, plus a whole pedalboard full of fun.

Isn't this likely to get you involved in a shooting though? The worse your playing sucks, the more likely you are to be shot.

Oh bullshit. I grew up without a father had a dysfunctional mother and picked up guitar instead of a gun because somebody put one in my hand and took the time to get me started. The least society could do is push children towards more creative outlets, music painting, acting whatever. Promote music and arts in school an out.

anecdote. School shooters are atomized from the beginning

If your assertion was correct, there’d be a helluva lot more mass shooting murders.

Nice play room! I'm jealous for the Martin

I've been wanting to build a Stewmac/Mojotone 5w hardwired Champ kit... I love those little amps.

The Nash is a boutique for sure...very nice guitar. The 6120 goes without saying...great collection.

Not the solution for everyone, but still a good idea.

It's my impression that creative outlets are popular in elementary school, but by high school the kids dedicate their efforts to career-oriented study. Only a small percentage of those think they will ever be successful as musicians or actors (or sports people, even) so the message they should all be getting throughout school is "you're going to need a hobby too." Being serious about a hobby carries people over setbacks in their careers or love lives, and a good hobby can even become a full time job.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, just trying to explain WHY a hobby like playing music is good for mental health.

Nothing like learning the songs you loved growing up. Too bad I can't sing worth a shit

The more time devoted to “hobbies” the less time devoted to shoplifting destruction of private property, setting fires, armed robbery etc..

I wrote some truly awful protest songs in my youth. Recruiting for the bad guys! I played piano a bit as a child, but missed the window of electric keyboards being cheap, so I never considered that. Around 25 I mucked about with tape loops, but again I missed the window because those things have a muddy analogue sound which was (temporarily) out of fashion. I guess I would have had to be the singer in a (terrible) band ... and I'm a baritone so that cuts the options even further.

Still there's Kraftwerk. Can't sing, can't play, but they were still moderately successful just on songwriting. I didn't consider that, maybe fortune without fame didn't appeal to me?
