I've been looking to see the ratings of both forgein and domestic universities/colleges around the world and haven't come up with much.

So I sit here, begging for help :2razz:

US News and World Report ranks the best American universities every year:

The list for the entire world probably wouldn't be much different, as most of the best universities are American. Just add in Oxford and Cambridge and a few others, and the list would be about the same.

I think France, Germany, Switerland, Japan and Australia might have something to say about that. The link: http://www.thes.co.uk/worldrankings/ shows the top 200.

It is a subscribe only site and even though the first 14 days are free (which is how I got the list) I am not sure if I can cut and paste from it, perhaps I could just paste the rankings without the 7 columns of details?

Anyway, a summary is here: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1343642,00.html

Basically, US got 7 out of top 10, 20 out of top 50.
UK got 8, Australia 6, Canada 3, Swiiterland, Singapore, Japan, Honk Kong 2 each, Chiona, Germany, India 1 each.

Having spoken to two academics (one from Oxford and one from Cambridge) they both said that teaching standards and research standards are often different, and they ranked themselves below Harvard for research but higher for teaching standards.

If it is ok to cut and paste a part of the list, I will do that.
