A.I. Expert Says Automation Could Replace 40% of Jobs in 15 Years

Ridiculous assumption.

AI has been particularly strong in the Manufacturing area where - ever since the 1980s when automated paint-machines were introduced - it has put a great many people out of work.

Which means quite simply that the world is moving out of the Industrial Age and into the Information Age, and we should be preparing our youth for the types of jobs that the Information Age will provide.

There is nothing fundamentally different from the 18th/19th centuries when we moved from the Agricultural Age into the Industrial Age. Which emptied the farms of employment as automation was applied in the form of tractors.

That same transformational mechanism is being used today - only it is called Information Management.

We should have in the US free, gratis and for nothing post-secondary education. The above history was the key-factor that America developed secondary schooling because "industry" required workers with a higher level of intelligence. Moreover, nowadays, it is not only industry per se that requires intelligence but most of the rest of the market-economy, given that Industry hires nowadays only 12% of the entire workforce!

Today, statistics show that only 45% of our secondary-schoolers are moving on to a higher level of education. Ask yourself why.

Because it is too damn expensive. And, like Europe, tertiary-level education should be free, gratis and for nothing as is secondary-schooling ... !

Government funded education* up to and including post-secondary schooling would be the only "real investment" in the future of the American economy. It would be far more beneficial than the colossal amount of money being wasted in the DoD ....

*Which is an idea that Bernied borrowed from Europe and Hillary supported the idea as well. And what happened? Our anachronistic voting mechanism (called the Electoral College) ignored the popular-vote and for the fifth time in history elected its loser. What a great show of Real Democracy we portrayed to the world!

Founders didn't want real democracy which is why they didn't give us one. They knew from history the tendency was toward liberal statism and self-destruction so they tried to limit children and childlike adults from voting.

That's why we provide references for our facts, .

you provide references for trivial facts to distract from your loss. You said growth was not reaching laborers, then you learned 800 million had just moved into Chinese middle class. Do notice that liberals always lose debates?

It seems I have to do your work for you. China has lifted 800 million people out of poverty but not as you claim into the middle class. There is a big gap between the poverty line and the middle class. You're wrong, accept it and move on.

China lifting 800 million people out of poverty is historic:World Bank | Business Standard News

Just curious if you believe the scientific consensus on global warming and are similarly concerned about future regret, and tragic results, etc.?

I agree with Mircea, it will be such a long time coming, and done little bit by bit, people won't even notice.
New Tech always takes much, much longer than predicted, to replace embedded infrastructure, investment, training, tech, and existing businesses that fight against change.

I suggest its happening faster than you think and with 5G emergent where you can toast bread at home from 10,000 miles away.

No one adequately predicted the effects the internet would have socially, but in about a decade our means of shopping, communicating, even delivering medical care .

Another example just published by my Credit Union, since 2009 their number of customer reps - anyone who has contact with members etc. has been more than halved while transactions have risen the usual rate of about 12% per year. That's about 800 jobs vanished across the province.

Where there will be upheaval will be in jurisdictions where they made no plans for alternate employment either through returning to school or retraining and that is where the more socialist countries have the edge.

you said wealth in China was not getting to the laborers, then I taught you it was getting to 800 million, and you have been trying to change the subject ever since. Don't you think you ought to be right about something once in a while, or go away, study up, and come back under another name as a conservative? Do you really want to be wrong the rest of your life?

not concerned since as non scientists we don't have enough knowledge to have worthwhile opinion. Probably a lie anyway since all the predictions turned out to be false so far. They have been at this for 40 years now, don't forget. Cant be stopped anyway since China and India and even Germany are growing and polluting more and more. If scientists believed it was true there would be real panic, THey are doing little and the world is doing very little. Best insurance is geo-engineering. Why not go to Russia China and others and say lets drop all space money and use it on geoengineering?

Reread the thread. You said China had raised 800 million workers into the middle class. That was wrong. I said concentration of wealth is keeping a great deal of wealth out of the hands of Chinese workers. That is correct. The rest of the thread's communications between us is me correcting you often with supporting citations and you making stuff up without citations and being condescending about your ersatz-wisdom and bogus knowledge.

Cheers.

how could that be when they just went from subsistence farming to the middle class. 1+1=2
Republican capitalism is putting a great deal of wealth in their hands. See why we say liberalism is based in pure ignorance. Is any other conclusion logical?>
