Ridiculous assumption.
AI has been particularly strong in the Manufacturing area where - ever since the 1980s when automated paint-machines were introduced - it has put a great many people out of work.
Which means quite simply that the world is moving out of the Industrial Age and into the Information Age, and we should be preparing our youth for the types of jobs that the Information Age will provide.
There is nothing fundamentally different from the 18th/19th centuries when we moved from the Agricultural Age into the Industrial Age. Which emptied the farms of employment as automation was applied in the form of tractors.
That same transformational mechanism is being used today - only it is called Information Management.
We should have in the US free, gratis and for nothing post-secondary education. The above history was the key-factor that America developed secondary schooling because "industry" required workers with a higher level of intelligence. Moreover, nowadays, it is not only industry per se that requires intelligence but most of the rest of the market-economy, given that Industry hires nowadays only 12% of the entire workforce!
Today, statistics show that only 45% of our secondary-schoolers are moving on to a higher level of education. Ask yourself why.
Because it is too damn expensive. And, like Europe, tertiary-level education should be free, gratis and for nothing as is secondary-schooling ... !
Government funded education* up to and including post-secondary schooling would be the only "real investment" in the future of the American economy. It would be far more beneficial than the colossal amount of money being wasted in the DoD ....
*Which is an idea that Bernied borrowed from Europe and Hillary supported the idea as well. And what happened? Our anachronistic voting mechanism (called the Electoral College) ignored the popular-vote and for the fifth time in history elected its loser. What a great show of Real Democracy we portrayed to the world!
