Hitler was right about one thing. Tell a huge lie over and over, and in time people will begin to think it is true.

Look at the statement -----------separation of church and state. It is NOT in the Constitution. But I bet if a large number of people were polled, they would say it is.

What that the Constitution actually says is-----"Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion". And it goes on to say--------"or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging he freedom of speech.

Now let actually look at what the founding fathers wanted and were saying. Because of their recient separation from England they did not want Congress naming an official national religion like England did with the Church of England.

Therefore when a local city puts up a cross or the Star of David anywhere in their town, it IS NOT Congress naming some particular church such as Lutheran or any other as the official church of the country. When some fools such as the ACLU claims that a cross or what ever needs to be torn down, they are flying in the black and white statement in the first amendment. "or prohibiting the free exercise there of"!!!!!!!!!!!! It is simply the people of that town exercising the free exercise thereof. Again it is not Congress naming an official state religion. Did Congress come to that town and demand that the city should put up a cross or a Star of David and name a specific church the official church of the United states.

The fools on the left will hate this, since they have been brain washed with the huge lie of separation of church and state for so long, they think it is true.

Ok now let the hate towards me and the arguments begin. BTW before you do read the First Amendment.

What is the caffeine content of your morning covfefe?

The idea that the BoR only applies to the federal government has been rejected long ago.

:popcorn2: (Another tried and failed argument from the OP)

The only problem is that's not what's happening. Issues around religious symbols take rise when they're displayed in government offices etc, and that's where it gets tricky because it can be perceived as the government choosing one religion.

OP fails to comprehend (or refuses to) this ^^.

The idea that the BoR only applies to the federal government has been rejected long ago.

Point of information. Actually the "idea" that the Bill of Rights only applied to the Federal government was never rejected, it was a fact until Congress enacted the 13th and 14th Amendments.

Subsequently, the SCOTUS has ruled on several cases allowing for the incorporation of most (but not all) of the Bill of Rights as applying to the States.

Some actually still do not apply yet. Parts of Amendments 3 (quartering soldiers), 5 (requiring a grand jury for indictments), 7 (trial by jury in civil suits), and 8 (excessive bail) have yet to be incorporated.

As for the OP?

Cantwell v. Connecticut, 310 U.S. 296 (1940) was the decision incorporating the Free Exercise of Religion under the Due Process clause of the 14th Amendment. https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/310/296/

The same is true for “fair trial.” It is not in the constitution but if people were polled they would say it s

Now let actually look at what the founding fathers wanted and were saying. Because of their recient separation from England they did not want Congress naming an official national religion like England did with the Church of England.
And one of the reasons was that some states had official religions and didn’t want the Federal Government having a different choice.
Under the Maryland Constitution of 1776 the Church of England received state funds for support.

The 1780 Massachusetts Constitution required support of Protestant churches and teachers.

The 1777 Vermont Constitution limited religious freedom to Protestants.

The 1778 South Carolina Constitution made “the Protestant Religion” the official established Church.

And while Connecticut had no Constitution, it’s colonial charter was as a religious colony with an official religion of Congregationalism.

So it wasn’t so much they didn’t want a national religion...they didn’t want one other than their own.

As for the rest of your post...none of the bill of rights (freedom of speech, press, right to bear arms, right to a lawyer, right to jury trial, right against self incrimination, etc) applied to the states until the 14th amendment, and even then the SCOTUS has had to acknowledge each right individually. The second amendment wasn’t ruled to apply to the states until 2020 in McDonald v Chicago.

So why is it that those opposed to church-state separation ONLY are opposed to the establishment clause being incorporated?

Oh, and I don’t hate you. You are far too insignificant for me to hate, nor do I hate your views: they’re just wrong.

But you seem to have a pocketful o’ hate and seem to welcome hatred.

And “Pocketful o’ Hate” would be an awesome band name.

What's hilarious is I think aside from the erroneous assumptions about "libruls", it's one of his more rational rants. He's wrong of course, and DEEPLY in error to make such assinine assumptions on a POLITICAL DEBATE BOARD!

Maybe if you're talking the general public, but it seems to me, a reasonable assumtion that regulars at DP have above average knowledge of politics, even when they're as consistently wrong as the OP is.:lamo

It was a means to simplify the description given in the constitution. From there, the lawyers and the victim industry started rolling elected representatives to get them on board. Most politicians bark is worse than their lick.

Either way, it's best not to post things like this on Sunday because you are inviting a liberal beat down. Sunday is this crew's worse day of the week, and all the bullies are out hunting for some one to beat on.

That was Goebbels. You can't even Godwin a thread right.

Ooops double post, so I leave you with this:

But again, not government but CONGRESS. Read what the Constitution says in black and white.

I really expected more push back from the radical left. They thot their huge lie told this many times had everyone brain washed.

But there are millions of us that are not sheep, and do not live on the democrat plantation and can read, and understand what the Constitution says.

In this whole business, it is the long irate atheist that in some city that gets his nose out of joint about a cross or a star of David.

Lets look at this logically. If an atheist doesnt believe in Christ, the cross then is just a geometric shape. If a city would put a triangle on the court house lawn would the atheist rant against it too. Why is one geometric shape ok and another not?????????

Logical, you keep putting thread after thread and so far in my opinion, they have all been worthless and uninformed. With such a big problem facing us with Trump as President, with our allies now against us, with Putin and Kim Jong Un now Trump's buddies, with closure of the Government, with the Stock market collapsing, with so many other issues at hand you come up with a thread about separation of church and state?

What are you? are you like Trump needing attention at all times? are you so in need of communication that you need to put up these ridiculous threads?

Sorry dude, but provide some good evidence that your magical invisible being exists, or we're not buying it. No more than Zeus or Ra.

You believe in the equivalent of Santa Claus....unless you have some evidence to suggest otherwise?

Lets look at this logically. If an atheist doesnt believe in Christ, the cross then is just a geometric shape.

So then you would have no problem with monuments to Satan, Zeus, Allah, Vishnu, or any other god being erected on government land, at taxpayer expense, is that correct?

Yes. It was the Jefferson SCOTUS that misinterpreted the separation of church and state ideology - meaning no church in state - into The Constitution (for the benefit of atheists, I believe). Once the precedent is made, it becomes The Constitution. It's called legislating from the bench.

What a shame. Religion is a small subset of ideology and every other ideology is allowed to participate in American gov't except for religion. What did religion do wrong?
