Otto von Bismarck may have fallen from grace here and there, but the "Bismarckhering" is still popular in Germany.
Many Germany, who have little or no idea who or what Bismarck was, know this herring and enjoy it for lunch or supper or in between.


 
When I hear the name Bismarck, I think of the WWII German battleship.

Bismarck was a many-splendoured person.
He was a life-long learner and often good for a surprise.
Not many remember his merits concerning social security.

But we are in the food section here - so let's not forget the herrings!
