Sen. Perdue tells Faith and Freedom attendees to pray for Obama. "We should pray like Psalm 109:8 says: Let his days be few"
8:57 AM - 10 Jun 2016

Sen. David Perdue is the junior senator from Georgia. He's known in the Senate as a nice, modest guy — not one of the bomb throwers, by any means.

Here is how the prayer he encouraged the audience to make for Obama continues:
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
You don’t have to believe Perdue literally wants Michelle Obama to be a widow to think that invoking this psalm toward the president of the United States is, perhaps, a bit inappropriate. (Perdue isn’t the first to suggest Psalm 109:8 is an appropriate prayer for Obama; it's become a meme in hard-right circles, where you can buy bumper stickers and shirts that say the same thing.)
The Republican Party acts shocked by Trump — like he is some alien parasite who has taken over their party without warning or precedent. They shouldn’t be so shocked.

With this kind of rhetoric and this kind of hatred against Obama, it should honestly be of no surprise that the GOP has become the Party of Trump.

Oh for crying out loud. He's clearly referring to the ending of his administration, and having fun invoking scripture as a reference to that point

Conservatives do the same thing with Ecclesiastes 10:2 "For the heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the foolish to the left". The author of that verse wasn't familiar with post-French-Revolution Western political terminology, but it's funny to toss out when making the point.

Claiming that this guy is asking for people to pray that the President be murdered, or die early, and his children be orphans is stupid. But, it's therefore what we'd expect.

Ignorant spreading of religious hate. The right in action, from the SBC to the Taliban and ISIS.

So when talking about the president he directly references a bible verse about longing for one's enemy to die and to see his wife and children driven into destitution and you're seriously going to sit there with a straight face and pretend it was just him being glad to see the president leave office peaceably? Does it not get tiring constantly defending all the horrible things your holy book and fellow ideologues spew?

What RabidAlpaca said.

and.......

Why would someone pray for his days to be few in office when they literally already are few in office?

Re: A GOP senator just prayed that Obama’s “days be few.” This is how the GOP got Tru

How does this guy have any connection to Trump?

Obama was a close friend of domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. Does that make Obama a terrorist?

Because they aren't few enough?

It's a reference and a half-joke. That's it. What you are doing is dumb.

Example:

Obama has referenced Leviticus 19 on the issue of immigration. Leviticus 19 goes on to forbid (for example) tattoos. Obama was not endorsing the concept that tatoo'd people deserved to burn in hell when he said that we should welcome the sojourner among us - and making that argument would be stupid, because it would be to deliberately take his remarks out of context in order to try to create some hysteria and generate clicks.

Which is what this is.

It has to do with Trump because this kind of over the top hatred of Obama is incredibly common in the Republican party and Trump spent several years of his life trying to de-legitimize Obama by falsely claiming he was born in Kenya and should be removed from office. The point of the article is that nobody should be surprised the GOP nominated Trump. He's cut from the same cloth.

Oh yeah. Trump. He's totally a deep biblical scholar. Definitely ideologically right there.

I didn't say he was a biblical scholar, I said that he believes and says a lot of the same hateful and awful things they do.

Trump doesn't have ideological overlap with Christianity, the man is about as Christian as I am actually Dr Bruce Banner.

Perdue may be a jerk, he may be a great guy, he may be a great Senator, he may be an awful one. I don't know. But this. Is stupid.

It's not hatred to want Obama out of office. I don't want anything bad to happen to the President or his family, but I would like to see them evicted from public housing, so to speak.

I thought you looked familiar, Bruce.

So you really think it's ok to reference a poem about the president's death and his family being driven into horrible poverty? What am I thinking, you're Christian, you've trained your brain just to gloss over terrible things like that as a "metaphor".

He didn't reference a poem about someone peaceably leaving office. He heavily implied he's wishing the death of the president of the United States. I mean for ****'s sake I'm not a big Obama fan either but this is rather much.

Yep.. Almost 8 years the Republican base was told that Obama is an evil dictator and the Antichrist. So many of the GOP base wants to know how the establishment GOP lost to this Antichrist, TWICE. And they haven't been able to impeach him either. So now there's another Antichrist in the wings, Clinton. The GOP couldn't beat the last one, no way the base is going to trust them to beat this new one. They'll pick their own guy this time, Mr. Trump.

The GOP national politicians let this type of vicious over the top hatred go on for 8 years, and they did nothing. They even laughed and winked about it. Well now the monster they helped create, Trump, has turned on them.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

If the guy had said, "and let us all pray that the President die and his family be driven into horrible poverty", then that would be contrary to Christian teachings, immoral, outside the boundary of proper public discourse, and at least worthy of a serious Secret Service visit that features an extremely uncomfortable, lengthy, painful interview.

But he didn't do that. He referenced him leaving office. If you have any evidence whatsoever that he actually meant completely different verses, then feel free to post it. Until then, this argument carries as much water as Obama's crusade against Tattoos.

I'll tell you how the antichrist was elected twice. It was those damn liberal professors brainwashing everyone who went to college and the liberal media hiding the truth about him.

Are you sure that it's not hatred of Obama's policies rather than the man himself?
I rather doubt that this person ever met Obama in order to form a personal opinion about the man himself.

Doesnt a politician generally stand for the policies he promotes? Is not the man/the politician?

.

He referenced an entirely different verse. Going elsewhere so you can get hysterical about the results of WELL WHAT ABOUT THIS makes as much sense as (see above) claiming that Obama hates people with tattoos.

Look, the important point is: conservatives are bad, and Christianity is icky.

I'm sure that this is what some would have us all believe, but I don't believe it.

The prayer said "let his wife be a widow." Last I checked there weren't a lot of double meanings for "widow." And for his kids to be destitute and begging for food? Jesus Christ...

Anyway, I'm surprised that's the tact(sp?) you took. I would have expected the response to the effect that if you google hard enough you can find any nutcase.
