One man can hold up a bill that enjoys a majority of votes from both sides of the aisle. And the reason is the same as the GOP in the House which will only allow a vote on bills if they have the support of a majority of their members. Who cares if the bill is good for the country both socially and financially. Who cares if a majority of Americans support a bill. The only reason to pass any legislation is if your members in your caucus agree. This is partisan politics at its worst and both parties are guilty of the same when they control the legislature. We need independents and a lot of them elected to break up this log jam in Congress.

McConnell is a poisonous cretin.

Even Trump supports it, McConnell is basically the only person in Congress who doesn't and somehow he gets to decide the fate of it.

McConnell is a poisonous cretin.

He's likely the most effective member of Congress in decades.

He's also utter human filth, a hypocrite of huge proportions and delights in damaging the country, but those are different issues.

I can't figure out what McConnell is doing here, or what he thinks is the upside to him doing this.

He's effective, but uses some very underhanded methods which have likely done lasting damage to what used to be normal Senate processes. Example : going forward, how many more judges (including SCOTUS) do you think will be seated without one party controlling both the Presidency and the Senate?

He's effectively destroying the institution in the name of power. He's poisonous...

McConnell is without question the most consequential politician of his era. I doubt history will treat him kindly. Does not change the significance of his stewardship of the GOP Senate Majority.

Remember as well that McConnell was given the opportunity to join a bipartisan effort with Obama to try to deal with the Russian involvement in our 2016 election....was briefed by Defense Intelligence on the orders of Obama and instead of joining in the effort which HAD to be bipartisan or nothing, told everybody to go take a long walk off a short pier. Not only did he not join in the effort. He told them all that if they made any effort unilaterally he would claim that he himself did not believe any of it and would further claim that the whole thing was an effort mounted by the government to hurt the GOP candidate.

If the term Asshat is listed in any Thesaurus or Dictionary there is without question a picture of Mitch McConnell there.

Yep, the system is at best flawed.
