I'm not sure if any of you had heard about this so I thought I would post it in the Breaking News section. In 2004, the United States General Accounting Office discovered a frightening truth about our government. The General Accounting Office began a widespread investigation after Laura Callahan, Senior Director of the CIO Office of the Department Of Homeland Security, was exposed as a fraud who had purchased her degrees from a diploma mill. Only 3 such institutions cooperated with their investigation which revealed that 463 federal employees, some of them high ranking, were/are not even remotley qualified to hold those positions. It breaks down like this:

1. Department Of Energy- 35

2. Department Of Transportation- 17

3. Department Of Homeland Security- 12

4. Department Of Health And Human Services- 11

5. Department Of Veterans Affairs- 13

6. Office Of Personal Management- 1

7. Department Of Education- 2

8. Department Of Defense- 257

9. United States Postal Service- 29

10. Department Of Agriculture- 5

11. U.S. Courts- 2

12. United States Agency For International Development- 1

13. United States Treasury- 8

14. State Department- 3

15. Peace Corps- 1

16. NASA- 9

17. Federal Services Administration- 3

18. Federal Reserve Bank- 1

19. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp- 2

20. Federal Communications Commission- 1

21. Enviornmental Protection Agency- 9

22. Department Of Labor- 1

23. Justice Department- 13

24. Department Of The Interior- 6

25. Department Of Commerce- 4

26. Unknown- 17

Perhaps the most frigtening part of all is that 3 of those people have/had top security clearence at the National Nuclear Security Administration and a handful of them hold/held key positions in the Department Of Homeland Security.

Sorry, NN, but there are specific criteria that must be met to post in the *Breaking News* forum. This doesn't fit that criteria, regardless of if anyone's heard of it or not.

I had suspected that resume misreperationation was pretty widespread in the Govt for a long time. Glad someone looked into it.

What you have neglected to ask is, are these people able to do their respective jobs in an adequate manner?
Incidentally you may well discover that many of our Multi Millionaire businessmen have also never attended University in their lifetime, yet this did not prevent them from becoming sucessful in their respective fields.
Earning a degree is not an automatic method of achieving sucess in any field, in fact many businesses are at the moment having great difficulty in finding people who are adequate to the tasks they are attempting to recruit them for.
In some ways it is rather like an army, where the commisioned ranks rely very heavily on the non - comissioned ranks to steer them until they too are able to acquire sufficient expertise to lead their men / women in a sensible way.
Having a degree does not equip any one for immediate sucess, what is may do is reveal to a potential employer that the applicant is capable of learning.
I find it a great pity that ownership of a degree is held with such high regard that it leads many employers to ignore otherwise talented people.

Is this a list of how many frauds they found or just how many didn't have degrees?

Well it's a nice attempt at a spin job, but the truth is that these people attended unaccredited schools. This does not automatically equate to being a "diploma mill". While there are some unaccredited schools out there that are just that, there are also some that do a very good job of teaching. In Oregon, we have Oregon Tech. In many of it's programs it's a fully accredited college, in others, it lacks the state stamp of approval. When I was younger, you could go to school there for four years studying engineering and the State of Oregon would not consider you a real engineer. However, if simply took a 1 hour trip south to California, you could get all the fancy paperwork you wanted to call youself an engineer and the state of Oregon would accept them. I'd like to know who the 3 unaccredited schools who provided the GAO with info were and how many people received thier diplomas from each of them before I jumped to the conclusion that all of these people are a bunch of lying crooks. I'm also curious as to how people were reimbursed for the educational costs associated with these schools. I mean how tough is it to compare the name of a school with a list of accredited schools/programs in the US???

I don't have a 4 year degree. And I can't count how many times I've had to fix the work of someone that does!

What kind of cracker jack school did you go to?

Personally, I learned to count in the first few years of elementary school, not in the last two years of college.

WTF does that have to do with what I just said?

And your point is what?

Could you please explain the joke? I doubt anyone would get this...

I got it!

Emphasis should have been placed on the "I Can't count" part of Billo's comment.

The joke was relating to that part of Billo's post. Where billo stated he can't count.... and then he went on to say what it was that he couldn't count.

It really wasn't that hard to understand.

And now we know that Bill_O is deficient in both counting AND logic...the list just keeps on growing.
