I don't think I can begin to cover something like Britain's colonial history in a post, so instead, I'll pick two examples.

The US example, we all know but almost never 'think about', including not having any idea what we should have done instead. But the Zionists haven't forgotten it like we have, and view it as a model to follow.

Second, is the French colony of Algiers, invaded in 1830. A third of the people in Algiers were murdered in that invasion and establishment of the colony, and many more after.

As recently as the 1960's, France was entrenched in keeping the country, saying it was as much a part of France as Paris. Yet as they had recently in Vietnam, they lost against insurgents.

JFK's values were to oppose colonization - he held a large ceremony for Algiers when they became independent, celebrating and praising it, his policy greatly angering France.

It was a painful end to the colonial era, but the world mostly moved on. Colonies generally ended and became independent states, though some remnants remain such as US territories such as Puerto Rico and Guam, which do not have the typical violent rule of colonies.

Thing is, one country did not move on. Their entire national purpose is colonialism, as it always has been, and they look to the history as a model they not only want to emulate, but demand the right to, calling it an anti-Semitic double standard to say they should not repeat the history now.

Recognize history like the devastation to Native Americans, like that 1/3 of the population in Algiers murdered to establish the colony, reminds of the brutality of the colonialism; and makes the genocide in Gaza more recognizable.

The world is now horrified at the idea of colonialism, yet its governments are heavily influenced by the rogue state to support it for them. The west has amnesia about its own history, seeming to make it more complacent about the rogue state repeating it. But what's happening in Gaza - and the further colonialism threatened into neighboring countries - is a repetition.
