We are missing a golden opportunity here with our own stubbornness.

Here we have hordes of military aged males and females rushing to our boarder, crossing rivers, marching in the heat, surviving on what they can, all for a piece for the American dream.
OK, give it to them. SIGN EM' UP!

1. Push through a law allowing certain groups to be allowed to enlist and serve in our armed forces. This has been done many times before and is still going on.

2. Establish recruitment stations all along ports of entry where individuals are processed, screened, vaccinated, and indoctrinated into what will be their status as US military personnel. After a six year term of enlistment, they will be granted full citizenship, with one caveat...they will not serve on US soil their first year.

3. All training will be conducted at overseas locations, but they will receive full pay and benefits while under their enlistment contracts, in addition to a $500 signup bonus. Such bonus to be added to their pay after successful completion of basic training overseas, and or other service schools needed or one year has passed.

This will give us an entire new group of fighting men accustomed to hardships, and have made a legal commitment to this nation. Once they see what the pay and benefits are, i would think most would jump at the chance.

Of course, you will have the liars who will say anything, and then attempt to desert. But these, if caught, will be treated as military deserters, lose all pay and benefits, and spend their six years in a military stockade. Once their time is done, they are deported and if caught, spend 24 years in federal prison. 24 years is a standard sentence in a lot of Latin American countries.

The majority would serve their terms of enlistment honorably, receive their EARNED citizenship, and can enjoy the benefits of living in a country they fought for to protect.

Your thoughts?

1. Wont work. Training a foreigner in urban combat can only lead to mayhem. Keep the violence over there. Don’t allow it to come here.

Somehow “American Foreign Legion” doesn’t have the same cache as the French version.......PV how go things?

This is all a completely moot point as Trump has been attacking and deporting thousands of non-citizens bravely serving in the military. For him it's not about usefulness or proving their loyalty, only about ejecting brown people.

And no, we shouldn't be forcing asylum seekers into the military, we should be providing them asylum like every decent country does and we've promised to do.

I said nothing about FORCING anyone to do anything.
That partisan lens of yours keeps blinding you to what is actually being said.

The caravan are not asylum seekers. They have been offered lawful refuge in Mexico, by the Mexican government. Legitimate asylum seekers are obliged to apply for asylum status in the first country they enter. It's been offered, and most have declined in favor of moving on to the US. This is not about asylum.
