A 91-year-old concealed pistol license holder shot a man who was attempting to rob him Monday in Eastpointe, according to police. The victim was exiting his car around 10:15 a.m. and heading into the Rite Aid on Gratiot near Nine Mile when an unknown suspect in his late 20s approached, Sgt. Martin Campbell said.
“He attempted to rob (the victim) and (the victim) had a CPL and ended up shooting the suspect,” Campbell said. “It’s as simple as that.”
The would-be robber was struck in the neck and fled across Gratiot, where he was arrested by responding officers.
“Two detectives found him walking over there,” Campbell said. “He had a gunshot wound to the neck but he was talking and acting erratic.”

Imagine if this man were unarmed, what might this story have been instead?

just hoping the person he shot was the perp

He probably would have simply lost his wallet which sucks, but if you're smart in this day and age you don't really carry any cash with you anyway so he could have just shown the robber how empty his wallet was and he would have been left alone.

Now, imagine if the robber would have been armed as well what might have happened. The robber would have likely had his gun ready, and when the old man went for his gun he would have gotten shot and killed instead of simply robbed.

So it's better to be a meek victim in your world?

Elderly man attacked in own driveway, dies from injuries - Story | WJBK
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich (WJBK) - An 89-year-old man who police say was attacked and robbed in his own driveway has died from his injuries, and the man police say is responsible could now be charged with murder.

Police told FOX 2 News on Monday that Frank Bogucki, 89, had died from his injuries after being attacked during a robbery at his home.

Bogucki was attacked while getting out of his car in the driveway of his home on Thursday, November 5. According to police, he was hit in the head several times with a hammer. Police said after Bogucki was knocked down, the man then stole the purse off a woman in the car with Bogucki before leaving on foot. She was not seriously hurt.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An elderly man who was brutally beaten in broad daylight in downtown Los Angeles earlier in April has died, according to Los Angeles police.

Police said 85-year-old Dong Yul Lee was attacked near a Whole Foods on 7th and Olive streets at about 3:40 p.m. on April 3.

An elderly man was attacked and robbed by an unknown man behind a LaRosa's Pizzeria in Corryville on Friday, June 24.

At 5 a.m., the 87-year-old man was hit with a large rock and knocked to the ground, police said.

Police said the suspect then struck the man with his own cane.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Just weeks after an elderly woman was sexually assaulted, an elderly man was attacked in the same Sunnyside community.

At the church, the congregation inside prayed for a safer community.

"We pray for our community oh' God," the pastor preached Wednesday night. "It appears there's been a rash of burglaries and robberies."

The community has also become outraged over recent attacks on the elderly.

"We couldn't even stop at the store to buy a loaf of bread until we were attacked," David Morant said. The 63 year-old is the latest victim after he was beaten Tuesday night outside of a corner store near Dulcimer Street and Akard Street.

If he had not been armed, he would have been robbed, and may had been injured, or worse. I see articles regarding elderly people that do not survive robberies, almost daily. This 91 y/o man did society a service.

we dont execute people for theft, he probably wouldve just lost his wallet, he also couldve tried shooting him in the leg or better yet pulling the gun and not shooting at all, he could also have been insane and just shot a random person who maybe accidentally bumped shoulders with him, or he couldve been hallucinating because of his medication and thought he was shooting a 12 foot space dragon. Unless there is video, or a confession, or somekind of proof then there is no reason to assume the shooters story is true whatsoever.

First, see the list of articles linked in post #5.

Second, no one executed anyone in this event.

Third, the criminal was pointing an unknown object in an attempt to threaten the old man with his life as if it were a gun - meaning, that the man had every right to self defense which would include deadly force.

Fourth, as for your post's numerous "what if" stories... If a frog had wings he wouldn't bust his ass every time he jumps, but he doesn't, so discussing winged frogs is irrelevant, as are all your post's "what if's."

Fifth, your post's wish to excuse the actions of the criminal and find fault with the law abiding citizen is sad. A sad indication of where our country has fallen to culturally. But not surprising based on other posts from you.

Listen I know the bible teaches to execute theives but this america in 2016, we dont execute people for theft, the links in post#5 are all irrelevant to this case, other than that they are about old people being robbed, again theres no proof he was being robbed theres no video he didn't confess, the article doesn't even say if he had a weapon on him. Which even if he did wouldnt prove that he was trying to rob him.

we dont execute people for theft,
Even if he had killed his assailant it would not have been an execution.
It would have been protecting himself within the bounds of the law and a service to humanity to rid it of a criminal.

If he was robbing him (which there is no proof that he was) That would be true, but there is a difference between saying the shooter shouldn't be prosecuted by police because it was self defense, and saying he deserved to die or that the shooter "did society a service."

If?
Oy Vey!
People do not usually fire just one round at another person and then report that shooting to the police for ****s and giggles.

No one said they weren't different.
Whether you like it or not though, society is better off without those who are willing to steal from others, and in this case every indication is that the guy who was shot attempted just that.

Golly, you'd think if a 91 year old man shot you for no reason you'd say something...

Better yet, he could've used his Call of Duty skills and knee slid through the perp's legs while performing a sweeping leg kick, followed by a judo strike to the perp's neck. After that he could've shot the Taliban members that were about to rob him as well, and fly away in his Blackhawk.

Or he could just shoot to stupid criminal.

just hoping the person he shot was the perp
Why do I doubt that? Why do I sincerely believe that you really wish he had shot the wrong person?

Score one for the old guys.

Muggers and robbers should be shot on the spot..................cowardly opportunists.

Beer for my horses!

Oh yeah...and "Black Lives Matter"! Dont forget that part.

Stopping a criminal act is not an execution. Had he stopped the criminal act, held him at gunpoint, and then shot him when there was no longer a threat, you could then with some semblance of credibility claim he was 'executing' the criminal.

Here's lady with a baby who was unarmed:

French' 'woman' 'with' 'baby' 'fights' 'off' 'armed' 'robber' '-' 'France' '24

A woman owner of a French bar beat a hapless armed robber round the head with his own bag and chased him out of the premises in dramatic scenes captured on CCTV.

In the video, which has become a hit on French social media, a masked man is seen entering the Bocage Normand bar, at Vire in the Normandy region of northern France, brandishing a handgun.

You don't need a gun to beat an armed robber. A lady with a baby will do just fine.

That's nice. Did you have anything of value to add to the discussion?

Nooo, the lady knew what she was doing: she casually put the baby down and then beat the guy's ass.

Here's another one:

So, they're not getting lucky. As you can see, both of them know exactly what they're doing.

'Ya don't need a gun; just enough balls to face'em down.
