Report: Jimmy Garoppolo, 49ers Agree on Record 5-Year, $137.5 Million Contract | Bleacher ReportThe San Francisco 49ers have locked down their franchise quarterback.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Jimmy Garoppolo was set to reach free agency this offseason but has instead agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million deal to stay with the 49ers. Garafolo tweeted it's the "biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis."
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported the deal includes a total of $74 million in guaranteed money.
Ten years after the Boston Herald had to backpedal regarding a major story that made the Patriots look very, very bad, the Herald possibly will be doing it again.
The report from Ron Borges of the Herald regarding the supposed intent of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to skip OTAs “unless he receives a contract extension that carries with it up-front money similar to what his former protege, Jimmy Garoppolo, will receive from the San Francisco 49ers” was apparently the result of someone pranking Borges.

Talk about rolling the dice, but this franchise has a really bad record on choices.
Is this another bad/very bad Niner move?
A good/great move?
?
Kaepernick should kneel over this.
At best the move could be considered average. They are paying Jimmy like a top 5 QB so if he preforms like a top 5 QB they have only gotten what they paid for anything worse is a loss.
A guy with only a 23 game track record they guaranty $70 million....that is either ballsy or stupid....we dont know that he will stay good, and we dont know that his body cant take full season poundings.
Even if its "ballsy" there is no upside, hes the highest paid QB so even if he preforms like the best QB then there is no value in the deal. The only way it becomes a decent deal is if they appear in multiple superbowls
