6 Million People Face Water Shortages

Beijing, China: The Daily Internet. Published February 28 2007.

In south-western China, six million people have been suffering through a severe drought that is now threatening their water supplies.

According to a meteorology report, the highly populated area of Chongqing in March will suffer an acute water shortage.

"The city will be lacking at least 500 million cubic metres of drinking and irrigation water and about six million people will be thirsty," a local meteorologist told Chinese news agency Xinhua.

The 1.17 billion cubic meters of water held in Chinese reservoirs has been cut in half due to the drought.

Guangdong, a southern province in China is reportedly considering rationing water to farms, industries, and residents.

In 2006, a drought struck China where the temperatures sored over 40 Celsius (104 F) and cause 18 million people to face water shortages.

Wow when California suffers a drought it means you can't water your lawn. This is saying they'll go THIRSTY. That sounds bad.

I'm just wondering how long people will think global warming is a myth created by scientists craving that "valuable" research money goverments provide.

At the moment China with it's water shortage is all the news regarding water shortage.
The ME primarily Syria, Israel, Jordon, Palestine all have an ongoing water shortage.
Likewise the UK as well as France, Italy.
And of course we must not forget that the US has area's that are (if not now) in danger of water shortages.
Water conservation will in the next years be an ongoing problem in many nations, we ignore it at our peril.
