Uncommon Sense: 6 Cuban gays jailed as 'pre-criminal social dangers'

November 04, 2009

The Castro dictatorship does not discriminate — all Cubans are subject to being sent to prison if they stray too far out of the mainstream, as defined by the regime, even if they do not commit a real crime.

Six Cuban homosexuals learned that this week when they were sentenced to prison terms of 2 to 3 years, after they were convicted of "pre-criminal social dangerousness," according to a Spanish gay rights group.

Like Tom Cruise in "Minority Report," the dictatorship apparently has the power to look into the future and determine who will commit a crime, so it locks them up before they can offend. Almost always, the "offenders" are Cubans opposed to the political, economic or other policies of the Castro dictatorship, which has no tolerance for opposition.

In the most recent case, their real "crime" — like that committed by all Cubans, gay or straight, labeled as "pre-criminal social dangers" — is that with their lifestyle, the six newly convicted Cubans have chosen to not conform with the "revolutionary ideal."

An ideal that for more than 50 years in Cuba, has demanded that all notions of individual freedom, including the right to sleep with whomever you want, be kept in the closet.
A conspicuous obscurity in modern Cuban history is the oppression of homosexuals under Fidel Castro, and unprecedented oppression at that. Samuel Farber notes, “The present Cuban government… has done more to promote homophobia than any regime in the country’s history.”

Far left in action.

Far left in action.

Castro's goverment is a fascist-dictorship. That's more rightwing than leftwing on the political scale, regardless of what he calls it.

Good thing Ahmadinejad doesn't have to worry about this. There are no gays in Iran.

Homosexuality remains under attack in Castro’s regime. Article 303 of the Cuban Penal Code threatens “publicly manifested” homosexuality with a year’s imprisonment. Homosexual Cubans can be imprisoned for something as innocuous as holding hands. Isn’t the Left supposed to champion homosexual liberation?

Oh lord...

Please learn the difference between "right" and "left" as it applies to fascist regimes.

Castro is bigoted, dated, psuedo-intellectual, dogmatic and preaches inaccurate propaganda like no tomorrow. I like how some of his speeches identify the abstract theory of socialism more than communism. It really gives socialism a bad outlook but only to people who don't realize what socialism actually is and how much regimes like this fail more due to their warped authoritarian interjections. This move is disgusting. It reminds me of how people can be killed for not supporting communism, or using the internet that is not watched bit-by-bit from the government. Terrible country. The people there are surprisingly doing the best they can. The attention they focus to medical and the amount of occupation as doctors is astounding.

It's dated authoritarian regimes in action. The far-left can have the same agreement on civil rights as the far-right. The social scale is not always pre-determined by the left/right position. Communist regimes for all intents and purposes can be socially liberal, civil rights lovefest, minarchist, anarchist or the opposite (such as totalitarianism) but the regimes that were taken into place were corrupt and were ultimately dicatorships.

Gay instructor loses government job
Cuba: News October 2009

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct. 15 (Aliomar Janjaque, Fundación Cubana LGTB, Cubanet/index) -Henry Solís, coordinator of Gay Freedom Party events planned by Cuba’s homosexual community, has been fired from his government job.

Solís. 27 years old, lost his post Oct. 7 at the Boyeros Municipal Cultural Center where he worked. Twenty-four of 39 parents of children studying there signed a petition in support of Solís.

Solís had graduated from the institution as an instructor.
Let see Mariela Castro (she is the daughter of Raul Castro and the director of the Cuban National Center for Sex Education and an advocate for LGBT rights), now is the time to show your support towards the LGTB rights in Cuba.

There are plenty! All happy and willing to serve! :)

Oh wait - gay as in homosexual, not gay as in happy.

My Bad.

My gawd its like they're from america 30 years ago or something.

When is the world-at-large going to take a good hard look at Cuba and what Castro has done to "his" people for the last +50 years, and take decisive action to stop all of this, finally?

Ah - but according to our government peoples, Castro's a really good guy with a solid vision. He's inspiring.

So we won't be swooping down there anytime soon.

I think, also, that our govy people are TOO concerned about 'in our back yard' crap - they don't want war of any nature *close* to home lest they lose votes.

I feel sorrow for these guys, who so many years later have to go through the same ordeal. Until when they have to suffer this rabble of the Castro brothers? It's like a curse.

The Castros are the reason we built Gitmo there. They are very high up in crimes against humanity and human rights violations.

Puerto Rico for the 51st State? Naw, let's get Cuba instead. The citizens need liberation and we need the most beautiful place on earth.

In Cuba there hasn’t been, there isn’t, and will not be freedom for anyone until the Castro Tyrants and there henchmen are removed from power.
