5 dead, 16 hospitalized in mass shooting at Highland Park Fourth of July parade, shooter being sought

The guy in the first picture isn't playing Superman and the one in the second picture is a small child on their parent's shoulder. Neither are alone in their apartment mugging for a camera.
More straw grasping.

They are both wearing Trump flags as capes. Here is more.

when a lot of people speak of "small town America" this is pretty much what they refer to...

more about Highland Park, Illinois...

"The median income for a household in the city was $100,967, and the median income for a family was $117,235. Males had a median income of $83,121 versus $41,175 for females. The per capita income for the city was $55,331. About 2.3% of families and 3.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.9% of those under age 18 and 3.1% of those age 65 or over."

Start with the first line. Get busy. Good luck.

BTW...even after bans in Austtalia, England, etc they are still finding illegal firearms being smuggled in by criminals. Kinda like drug bans...bans dont work.
This comedian addresses your concern in a funny way, starts at minute 5.

Very well planned out from the sounds of it.

Doesn't exactly strike me as a mental health issue.

It would take generations, and in conjunction with other steps. Just as it took generations to establish the American gun culture that we live in now.

So you'd still rather spend that time focusing on just one symptom rather than really tackling the real problem. Yes, we know.

In the meantime the gun violence will continue unabated, because that's what America wants.

Addressing the gun violence wont fix the above. And it wont stop gun crimes. You have yet to propose what new gun laws/restrictions would do so? You've written several times how many guns there are in America. Those arent going anywhere and it would drive a huge black market to access/steal the ones in private hands. It would drive more crime to get them and the guns would remain more and more in criminal hands...and the rest of us disarmed and at a disadvantage the criminals were well aware of.

That is so disingenuous and I want to vomit every time I hear people say that. Legal gun owners wish that NO ONE would ever die by gunfire. The fact is, that because of the history of this country and the 2A, the guns are out there, in circulation, and there's nothing we can do about it. What we can do is try like hell to not raise criminals, and keep the guns out of the hands of criminals.
Sorry, you (global you, but includes anyone that says there is nothing that can be done) need to own this. The second amendment does not create an unrestricted right for anyone to own or carry any gun in any circumstance in any matter. Even Heller, which greatly expanded the meaning of the 2nd amendment made it clear that ownership is not absolute. It can be subject to some restriction.

Hence, whenever people die, particularly from an active shooter situation, and the response is callous "there is nothing we can do about it".... (which is not a true statement), those people are accepting those deaths as collateral damage. Its not that They are showing a preference to more such deaths to digging down deep and considering the reasonable and sensible sacrifices that can be made to ensure fewer such events. We had an assault weapons ban which expired in 2004, which actually worked. There is no real reason we could not re-instate something similar, for example. That is 'something that CAN be done," they just do not WANT to do it.

Your response made me want to vomit. Why can't gun zealots take ownership of this? It is clear they prefer the deaths to reasonable restrictions on gun acquisition and ownership, which is why they are quick to say "nothing can be done", when they know in their heart that much can be done, but they are in the way. Until then, its all acceptable collateral damage to the few. Until then, they have blood on their hands (but it currently is an acceptable amount of blood). Feel free to want to vomit, however, as that is a natural human reaction. Good to see the humanity is still there.

It's pretty much a carbon copy of Newtown, CT. Sandy Hook, remember.

One would think that you would avoid these threads…….🤷

Your kegger post will live in infamy, cheerio!

Officials are saying he spent weeks planning the shooting and was dressed like a woman during the massacre.
What does that change?

See post #925, and do two things: stop asking for ideas when they've been presented to you, and for the second time STOP couching the conversation in terms of "no law will stop gun violence, guess we're done here." I never said they would in such absolutist terms, just like I've never said expanding mental health services would eliminate the problem of gun violence either. It doesn't mean both aren't good steps.

And Maple Grove is nearly as far from Minneapolis but is still a burb....as I said, not interested in hair splitting.
So if a shooting took place in Boulder City, Nevada, would you claim the shooting took place in Las Vegas? They are the same distance apart. Of course, Boulder City has no gambling, a very strict limited growth policy, and a very low crime rate. It's nothing like Las Vegas.

Making excuses for not doing anything is not doing anything.

Where did I write do nothing? Or even imply it? I did write solutions re: guns and other things and have posted solutions in the past.

I want to know why they are dancing around stating the weapon type used and in mom’s car

Did they go into specifics on how they identified and found him? It's been very general...someone 'observed him and reported him'. I've read it was a cop and it was a bystander 🤷 But if he was disguised as has come out...there are many unconnected dots here at the moment.

The LEO spokesman hinted that he was known to authorities with no official record/charges.

Yes, innocent people getting killed and posters using their deaths to advance their "Chicago is filled with thugs" agenda does make the decent people angry.
Try reading it again. Then maybe there will be some understanding?

Info on
Chicago

How dangerous is Chicago?

Statistics say that the crime rate in Chicago in 2020 was 3,926 crimes per 100,000 people. That’s 67% more than the national average and a lot more than Illinois’s average rate of 1,985 crimes per 100,000 people. Part of the reason why Chicago’s crime rates are talked about so much is that violent crimes like murder, sexual assault, and robberies are a bigger part of the city’s high crime rate than property crimes like burglary, arson, or car theft.

In Chicago, there is a 1 in 103 chance that you will be hurt by a violent crime. That’s twice as likely as the average in Illinois, but it’s important to remember that just because you live in Chicago doesn’t mean you’re in more danger. Your risk of violence can be affected by things like your social class, your neighborhood, and the people you know.

Right on cue, thank you.
Responding to your post...gladly.

If you want to do something about the death and violence, then we can talk all day long...but it doesnt have anything to do with banning guns or guns in general, so any discussion of the problem that starts and ends with guns is just...stupid. Its as stupid as discussing drunk driving by talking about the evil cars.

You dont want solutions. Solutions would require examining the environment in minority communities where the vast majority of firearm related deaths occur. Working to understand the mass shooting problem would require examining the downfall of society and a discussion of how we went from 30 years of incidents running on average 1-2 per year to the last 12 years where incidents have climbed to on average around 13 a year.

You dont want to resolve the problem...you want to piss yourself and bleat about guns.

Dealing with guns is a huge part of solving the problem.

It's the elephant in the room. Refusing to acknowledge it is ridiculous.

How Christian of you to pretend you care about the victims. All you wanted to do was post your ugly bullshit about Chicago. Highland Park is not "just outside Chicago". It's 30 miles north of Chicago. You probably think Beverly Hills is right outside of Watts.

Get a map and keep pretending to care about these dead people.
Some folks on this forum are so full of vitriol you can't help but to pity them.
