This is actually for the DP members that have been to Iraq/Afghanistan and have 1st or 2nd hand experience.

I've heard a lot about our current 5.56x45 ammo (that fired by the M16 and M249) has been less than impressive in combat, often requring several hits to put a target down - especially if the bullet does not hit bone. This situation is particularly noticeable in Afghanistan and western Iraq where the enemy may be engaged at longer ranges.

Not surprisingly, there has been no complaints about the large and more powerful 7.62x51 ammunution, the round used by the M240/M60 machineguns and M14 rifles.

What do you say? What's your expereince, or that of your buddies?

I prefer 9mm Glocks or 9mm MP5, but if you go with the big guns already you should certainly use my favorites G3 or MG3, 7.62 x 51 mm. What do you need bigger for unless you want a standing 12.7?
