I’m hubris free. I am not judging the women getting abortions because I do not know them. And it was the people praying, not me, that said they wanted their prayers to stop women from getting abortions. It was the conservative Christians, not me that said they wanted to overturn Roe and deny women the right to choose. It was conservative male posters, not me that have advocated punishment for women who got pregnant. Repeating the goals people have publicly stated is not hubris nor is it misrepresentation.
You may not feel like a minion but you are the foot soldiers of the conservative Christian movement doing the heavy lifting to gain enough political control of the government so that your leaders can turn back the rights of LGBTs, minorities, women, the poor, illegal immigrants (yes they do have legal rights) and legal immigrants. With political power to end environmental regulations, workers’ protections, business and finance regulations, abortion, many women’s contraceptives, universal medical insurance. And power to declare the US officially a Christian nation with Christian values. Listen to what the leaders of your movement say:
“The idea that
religion and
politics don't mix was invented by
the Devil to keep
Christians from running their own country. If [there is] any place in the world we need Christianity, it's in
Washington. And that's why preachers long since need to get over that intimidation forced upon us by
liberals, that if we mention anything about politics, we are degrading our ministry. Jerry Falwell: Sermon, Lynchburg, Virginia, 1976-07-04,
“I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country,we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and
Christians will be running them.” Jerry Falwell in

A wife is to submit graciously to the servant leadership of her husband, even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. —
Official statement of Southern Baptist Convention, summer 1998 (15.7 million members)
The Holiness of God is not evidenced in women when they are challenging, controlling, assertive, insubordinate, or clamoring for power. Rather, women accept God’s holy order and character by being humbly and unobtrusively respectful and receptive in functional subordination to God, church leadership, and husbands. —
James Fowler, Women in the Church, 1999.
Women will be saved by going back to that role that God has chosen for them. Ladies, if the hair on the back of your neck stands up it is because you are fighting your role in the scripture. —
Mark Driscoll, founder of Mars Hill nondenominational mega-church franchise. (1970-)
“Yes, we are called to permeate the culture with the Word of God. We are called to seven areas of culture in particular, including Family, Government, Media, Arts, Business, Education and Religion.” Lance Wallnau of Charisma.
“The new political philosophy must be defined by us [conservatives] in moral terms, packaged in non-religious language, and propagated throughout the country by our new coalition. When political power is achieved, the moral majority will have the opportunity to re-create this great nation.” Paul Weyrich 1970
