4 Police Chiefs Sued Over 'Excessively Delaying' Applications for Gun Permits

That pesky pandemic! How rude of it to delay people their God-given right to purchase a gun!

I see that the MSN news feed algorithm is working quite well.
Would you be so flippant if this was about another right, like voting? There is no reasonable excuse for this and example of why there should be a time limit on how long a background check should take

Flippant? That was sarcasm.

The entire country's bureaucracy was slowed down by the pandemic. To waste people's time and money and litigate because gun permits are not moving along fast enough for your liking is the height of arrogance.

yet you were educated that this has been going on long before the pandemic. can you imagine if someone said that it was proper to delay abortions or gay marriage licenses for months due to the pandemic?

I got suppressor Form 4s approved quicker than these local yokels are processing simple gun permits. The time for a Form 4 didn't get impacted by Covid at all, and the processors at ATF all work in West Virginia.

I got Form 1s back in 20 days. NICS checks aren't taking a ridiculous amount of time, either.

There's no reason that a simple permit should take months. A NICS check can take as little as 5 minutes.

In the suit, Orel Johnson alleges he went to the Hartford Police Department in June to apply for a municipal firearm permit. He claims officers directed him to put his name on a waiting list and that the police department would call him when it was ready to accept his application. Johnson claims he followed up on numerous occasions since but the department has yet to accept his application."

They won't even accept the application.

"Meanwhile, Shaquanna Williams claims applied for a permit with the New Haven Police Department in August. According to the suit, her documents were already completed and she had already paid to have her fingerprints taken.
She alleges in the suit that New Haven police "refused to take Williams' application" and instead gave her an appointment in March 2022. The suit said that by that time, her fingerprints will be stale, and will have to pay again for new fingerprints. "

"In talking about the CCDL, New Haven's Mayor Justin Elicker said, “This group has, in the past, opposed common sense gun safety legislation which enjoyed bipartisan support, such as Ethan’s Law, restricting untraceable ghost guns, and expanded background checks. My priorities are keeping our residents safe – not profiteering for gun retailers and manufacturers. Last week a fourteen-year-old boy was gunned down in our city, this is unconscionable.”"

"The third plaintiff is Anne Cordero, who alleges she has been trying to submit her application with the Bridgeport Police Department since 2020. The suit states that in June, Bridgeport police instructed her to sign up for an appointment to submit her application, but that the first available appointment would be late January 2022. "

In Ohio, there was a bit of a slow down when the panic was at its worst but nothing like this. why were other states able to cope? incompetence or a dislike of citizens exercising their rights.

That mayor is POS. I bet if he or his family wanted a permit it would be ASAP. That sort of attitude should disbar the clown from ever holding public office

Laws are for thee, not for me.....silly unwashed masses.
I have long advocated the following

1) no legislative body shall make any law that does not equally apply to members of that body

2) no politician shall have access to, nor be protected by men using, firearms that said politician votes to keep from the citizenry

Four Connecticut police chiefs have been sued by a gun rights group and four citizens over "excessively delaying" applications for gun permits, the Associated Press reported.
The Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL) announced it had filed a federal lawsuit against Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport and Waterbury police chiefs, saying they had purposefully slowed the licensing process and violated people's rights to bear arms and due process.
Holly Sullivan, president of the CCDL, released a statement alleging the cities were notorious for intentionally slowing the gun permit application process.

Applicants made to wait anywhere from 8 to 11 months for an appointment just to apply?

If CT is a "SHALL ISSUE" state then those groups will likely win their case.
Unfortunately California is a "MAY ISSUE" state, which is more accurately described as a "COLD DAY IN HELL BEFORE WE ISSUE" state, at least for Concealed Carry anyway.

Blue State bureaucracy at work.

At least until Peruda reaches SCOTUS.

though the results are mixed, some courts have held that may issue is an arbitrary and capricious standard and have stricken such laws down. I ultimately believe the USSC will hold that states cannot prevent lawful citizens from carrying firearms-either concealed, openly or perhaps both.

If there was not a backlog and delays prior to Covid you may have a point but that is not the case.

"Some anti gun folks". LOL, it appears the tendency towards personal insults and assumptions just can't be controlled.
Would you care to lay out a speech option we could use so as not to hurt any feelings or suggest something that you may find inappropriate? For instance sometimes I say "anti gun people" rather than "anti gunner", not so much to spare someones feelings as it just comes out that way. But do suggest away though.

New England is just another example of how everything progressivism touches turns to shit. It's such a beautiful part of the country, but leftists ruined it. We're planning on moving to either the western side of VA or WV in a few years.
I'd say if you're going westward stop in Idaho. DO NOT PASS Idaho do not collect $200.00 Oregon's going to hell.

Who knows maybe it doesn't concern him, but if you threw in illegal immigration into the mix you mentioned he would probably go through the roof.

I like how the Mayor says "not profiteering for gun retailers and manufacturers. Last week a fourteen-year-old boy was gunned down in our city, this is unconscionable". Was this a so called "ghost gun" since it was used in the same breath? Just a fourteen year old boy was gunned down and leaves it at that. No agenda there huh?

Two unsourced anecdotes are not an "education".

Here's the rub. We don't actually care if you accept the premise.
got to love someone thinking citizens-trying to exercise their proper constitutional rights-are wasting the time of bureaucrats. That sort of thinking wants to make me puke.

The premise that two anecdotes prove your theories? Of course, I'm not accepting that.
