And before anyone says this is all the fault of unions or liberalism, let's not forget that corporate profits are at an all-time high and the stock market is reaching for the stars.

And now all that talk about black people being poor and shiftless, is coming back to bite white people in the ass: the economic problems that white people were happy to let consume the black community, are now consuming the white community.

Globalization has again, from yet another angle, been proven to be more detrimental than beneficial to America's working class. It has driven everyone's incomes down, not up. And the cost of living hasn't gone down, as globalism promised it would. Whoops.

The evil socialists warned you that this was coming.

Enjoy your poverty, you asked for it!

Exclusive: 4 in 5 in US face near-poverty, no work - Yahoo! Finance

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Four out of 5 U.S. adults struggle with joblessness, near-poverty or reliance on welfare for at least parts of their lives, a sign of deteriorating economic security and an elusive American dream.

Survey data exclusive to The Associated Press points to an increasingly globalized U.S. economy, the widening gap between rich and poor, and the loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs as reasons for the trend.

The findings come as President Barack Obama tries to renew his administration's emphasis on the economy, saying in recent speeches that his highest priority is to "rebuild ladders of opportunity" and reverse income inequality...

As I noted in the other thread about this, Europe is worse and the rest of the world worse than that.

As usual, conservative shortsightedness and self-interest ruins it for everyone.

Naw, the federal government - and other levels of government is too busy wanting money and power for themselves - and too determined to execute their hatred on industry and business - for this to change.

As usual, conservative shortsightedness and self-interest ruins it for everyone.

Giving people a check instead of a job is not the answer. Don't blame "conservative short-sightedness" for crippling the work ethic in this country and expect to be taken seriously.

Did you have some statistics to back that up in the other thread?

Oh so now you want the government to create jobs, eh? :D

So...

In America, 1 in 5 people have NEVER been jobless, near poverty or received welfare. That's pretty kickass. I bet it's 1 in 20 in Europe and at best 1 in 100 in the rest of the world.

Oh so now you want the government to create jobs, eh? :D

No I want the government to stop tinkering with markets. In case you have not noticed, this Pacific trade agreement Obama has been flirting with will cause even greater disruption in the jobs market, but hey, he has a D and is black so we have to support him.

Good post. Of-course your attempt to counter the "spin" from the right ....will fail. You can trust them to say ...it's all Obama's fault ...and if we had a republican president ...they'll instead say ...what problem?

But this just sums up a lot of what I've saying. America's best days are behind us ....the current and future generations will never see an era better than today.
America will soon be what the UK is today.... a once world leader that's yeah...still functioning ...but with an economy meandering from stagnation to depressing ....a toothless military ....and as relevant world-wide as Guam!!

It's too dam late now ...decade after decade of trying to hurt blacks and minorities ...thinking they are protected ...is coming home to roost. The consistent ..unrelenting practice of ...cutting off their nose to spite their face ....is starting to show. They have allowed the ultra rich to engulf the system to an un-reversible level. The idea that all your energy...all your time is literally spent trying to make your president ...fail.... and that somehow ...this won't affect you is nothing but dumb!!

Do you people actually think John Bhoener, Carl Rove and Eric Cantor gives a rat's ass about you ..or America???

Here's the difference between dems and republicans ....most dems hate Bush policies .....republicans hate Obama period!!
Rush Limbaugh and the rest have done a great job convincing them Obama is not an American ...and is not legitimately the president!
And this means ...they must never be with him on any issue ...it means they'll literally embrace even people like Vladimir Putin over Obama!! Almost like re-living the war era where the white GI's respected and treated the captured German soldiers better than the black GI's.

Here's what's dawning on me ...most people dream and they really wanted the "hope and change" Obama promised ....now that that's not really there, this isn't what makes people sad.

The sad part is the realization that ....it will never come ...electing another democrat or republican president won't change the trajectory of the country....the party is really ...and truly over!!

I'm never saying democrats don't share the blame as well.
But I have always contend ....most democrats are hard working people who've never spent a day in their lives collecting any sort of government assistant. And when they vote ....they do so for their own self interest and even when they get it wrong ....it's far better than vote for spite!!

And I would like it if the Republican Party stopped arbitrarily applying free trade principles, but we can't all get what we want.

Yeah....the top corporate execs averaged 16% increase in their salary and associated holdings while Romney's 47% stayed flat after adjustment for inflation. The Lord/Serf society that Reagan and the Bushes strived for is upon us. I noticed the $9.00- $10.00 an hour folks are putting together a one day walkout and that will be just the beginning. This mess doesn't even resemble the America we should have. My wife and I were fortunate enough to enjoy jobs which were part of the middle class this country used to stand for. Even though we only had high school educations we worked an accumulated 84 years, 41 for me and 43 for her, educated our family, took vacations at least once a year, enjoyed good health insurance, and saved for retirement. Walmart and McDonalds executives would fill their drawers at the idea of paying employees enough to do that.

Corporations thrive on the labors of others while those at the top worry about how much new stock they accumulate. I used to be a Republican but it was when they had some respect for someone except corporations and the wealthy. Dwight Eisenhower initiated the Interstate Hwy system which kept America busy for ten years. John Kennedy set a goal to send men to the moon and return them safely to the earth by the end of the 60's decade. Now the idea of any kind of public works to put the country back to work is about as likely to get through the Republican house as a chicken is to grow a set of teeth.

So, since the US is such a hell millions of people are trying to emigrate fromthe US to other countries and nobody is trying to immigrate into the US, right?

Well I have a non-manufacturing job. If you want people to keep their manufacturing jobs, you would oppose this pacific trade proposal. More importantly, you would understand that businesses are not going to be dumping 100's of millions of dollars into new projects when they have no idea what the markets will be like by the time they finish building. The government is breeding profit-taking instead of equity investment.

Yeah...the folks who are sneaking in live in poverty where they are and have nothing to lose. Kinda reminds me of the Irish coming in after the potato famine.

Do you know what the old county owned poorhouses were? They existed before social security began to pay in the mid forties. There are thousands of unmarked graves scattered all across the country from that era. That's where the elitist assholes are trying to take this country. The Republican mantra is, "I've Got Mine...Now By God You Get Yours"

Second choice is "Pull Yourself Up By The Bootstraps Even If You Have No Boots Or Legs"

Third is "We Don't have To Worry About 47% Of Americans"

Fourth is, "If You Live Here, Don't Get Sick"

Fifth is, "If You Do Get Sick...Die Quickly"

The title of the article linked by the OP is misleading almost to the point of being an out and out lie. The headline claims that 4 in 5 face (present tense) near poverty and no work when what the article is talking about is people who at some point in their lives faced these things, not what their current condition is.

As for their current condition, 50% of families have an income in excess of $50,000 in the US as of 2011. That's a family with an average of 2.75 members. Employment and personal income has improved since then. The percentage of people below the poverty line is quoted in the article as being 15%. That number has been above 11% since 1959 at least in boom times and recessions and has been higher than 15% for three periods of time since then depending on the economy.

If not for their lying liberals would have nothing to say. The article is nothing more than agitprop.

Then why did company executives average a 16% increase last year while the also rans stayed flat after inflation adjustments? Why have they been doing the same thing ever since Reagan slashed tax rates to the lowest they had been in 50 years?

I'll assume you suffered from a lapse of reading comprehension when you said that 4 out of 5 Americans are near poverty. That's not what the article said and I would hate to think that you changed the verb to present tense in order to intentionally mislead.

The article said, "Four out of 5 U.S. adults struggle with joblessness, near-poverty or reliance on welfare for at least parts of their lives.".

Not that they are currently experiencing any of those things, but that at SOME point in their life they have. That's typical middle class. Most of us have been out of work at one time or another - or had a poor year of income that put us "near poverty", or for the most troubled of times, reliance on welfare. A whole life without ever experiencing any of those things means you're probably not middle class. I've been out of work AND lived in poverty but have done fine for the last 20 years and am happier now than ever..... and yet, I'd be one of those people you were claiming ARE suffering today with your post because at one time I did.

I'd have a lot more respect for socialists if they could argue their agenda without lies and deception but I don't think they feel that it's possible. And I think they're right about that.

Industry and business are making record profits. With hatred like that, who needs love?

I didn't see your post when I posted mine. You're spot on.

Conservatives are why people are getting neither a job, nor a check - and why corporate profits are skyrocketing off the charts, too.

Yeah... anyone but you making money = hatred, huh? Now THAT'S special!

News flash!!!
1) Immigration is WAY down.
2) Many Americans are now trying to emigrate from here, but they cannot afford to.
