I read a tiny blurb about this in the Washington Post, which led me to do a search on the internet. How is it that 4 people can agree to commit such a heinous crime? I want to vomit.

How? Ignorance. The power of peer pressure. Mob/gang mentality even though it's only 4 of them. And a coarsening of America which protects examples of wanton violence in popular culture such as video games.

My understanding is that it was a group of teens and young adult men (the youngest 15) acting under the influence of an older man in his 30s.
Apparently, the older man gave the orders.

This is still no excuse, obviously.

But as with the Manson Family, that is how this heinous crime occurred.
I think it is not unusual for a strong, charismatic older person to lead younger people astray; I have stressed to my kids time and time again that I do not want them hanging out with much older people. I think there's something inherently wrong with an older adult who wants to hang around with a group of teenagers, instead of having friends his own age. That person is probably up to no good. It's a definite red flag to me.
 
I blame this on Wii Fit.

Seriously though, this is disgusting. It's just senseless.

..... Damn those video games... Damn them to hell. It all their fault. We must take a stance against these children conditioning discs.
 
Guys, this really isn't funny.
It's awful. It's akin to one of you guys- you straight guys- getting attacked on the street and gang-raped by four men.
This woman was an outspoken lesbian. She was probably a virgin.
I've read that her condition right now is not good.
It's just... not funny.

According to what I've read, the victim was targeted specifically because she was a lesbian. The attackers have admitted this.
IMO, it suits the definition of "hate crime".

I'm not asking, "Do you think there should be such a thing as hate crimes?"

I'm saying, since there is such a thing, do you think this qualifies as one?
 

I think all crimes of this nature are hate crimes reguardless of who the victim or perps are.
 
Agree 100%. Disgusting animals.

I don't know what would be gained by adding "hate crime" to the list of particulars. It sounds like these guys will be going away for a long time as it is.

After that, I bet the farm that she is going to remain a Lesbian. If those guys are caught, my bet is that they will become homosexuals inside prison, and not because they want to either. Let them see what it is liked to be raped. Their teacher, Bubba the Butt Bandit, is waiting patiently for them to arrive, so he can begin their lessons. When that happens, then justice will have been served, and I hope it is served to them in a heaping helping.

I cannot imagine the pain, terror, degradation and pure horror this woman was subjected to. The image literally turns my stomach.

Rape is such a brutal crime, and gang rape... well, that used to be how barbarians killed their female captives. They literally raped them to death.

My heart goes out to the victims of such a crime. This will alter her life and her feeling of safety forever.
