thanks to the probe, Manafort agreed to forfeit real estate and cash estimated to be worth between $42 million and $46 million. So the investigation will actually NET a profit and if Manafort is found to be lying could forfeit more.

So tell us what the government can do with an extra 16 million it wouldn't have had? Imagine how much more if any Trump and Co associates are found guilty.

By this logic the government should keep one of these "special prosecutors" going year round, in perpetuity. Through forfeitures they could keep going after each other in perpetuity. Since the investigation seems to be focusing on things that don't involve why it's been created, the cost of it is the lesser of the issues at hand. The bigger issue is the blatant violation of the 4th Amendment that open-ended Special Counsels represent. It is not reasonable, in the least, and should be feared for a government to have the power to endlessly investigate anyone and everyone they feel like for their entire past and unrelated actions until they can find something to hammer you one. Hell, they can hammer you with "lying to the FBI" for misrembering something and that is somehow a felony. You can get charged with a felony for lying about something that isn't even a crime, like what happened to Flynn. That's ridiculous.

The president doesn't decide security expenditures. The SS complained before he was elected that Mar e Lago should be abandoned by the President during his tenure because it did not allow securitization. Trump responded he already has security in place, the SS said they had to be vetted. So far no vetting. Mar a Lago is an open resort with a tenancy for the entire Trump Family, similar complaint to the SS of Trump Tower in Manhattan, about which the SS has also done nothing, other than cause NYC traffic jams. Not much of an example.
