Here's the Roll Call break down:

http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll099.xml

And the story:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/16/world/middleeast/16cnd-cong.html?_r=1&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print

Seventeen Republicans voted for the resolution. Two Democrats, Jim Marshall of Georgia and Gene Taylor of Mississippi, voted against it. Mr. Marshall is the son and grandson of Army generals and was wounded in combat in Vietnam, according to The Almanac of American Politics. Mr. Taylor has a generally conservative voting record and is “strongly pro-defense,” the almanac says. Six representatives cast no vote.

Reps who voted Yes:

Castle
Coble
Davis, Tom
Duncan
English (PA)
Gilchrest
LaTourette
Kirk
Keller
Jones (NC)
Johnson (IL)
Inglis (SC)
Paul
Petrie
Ramstad
Upton
Walsh (NY)

Abstentions:

Baird (D)
Boustany (R)
Davis, Jo Ann (R)
Hastert (R)
Lo Biando (R)
Nadler (D)

At least Nadler, who is technically my Rep, didn't vote against it.

Symbolism over substance... pure and simple, a complete waste of time...

Perhaps next week, they can hold a vote on a non-binding resolution on what type of toppings they want on their Friday afternoon pizza party... just so they let the President know what type of pizza they like...

Geez...

I agree--a total and utter waste of time. What have we stooped to?

Nevertheless, I am happy to see Tom Davis voted yes, as he is my representative.

Either put teeth in it, or you're basically just sending a nasty note to someone else in the class... you don't think he KNOWS that the Democrats disagree with his plan?

You've got a Rep for a congressman?;)

I don't see the point in a non-binding resolution against the war. If they are pissed about it and think the President is handling this wrong; they need to cut the funding. That's part of their job as a check, they should just poo or get off the pot.

How long before we can label this a Do-Nothing Congress?;) :2razz:

Meanwhile, the President will do what he sees as the best course of action. This non-binding resolution means squat.

*sigh* Yes. However, I genuinely like Tom Davis and voted for him in this last election. (While, at the same time, I voted for Jim Webb ;))

On the contrary... this vote was substantial, it put people on record as having voted for or against come election time just like House and Senate vote approving the Iraq war resolution in United Nations Security Council... Resolution 1441.

1441 was not a war resolution.

This non-binding crap is a bunch of bullshit! The American people clearly said NO WAR! The dems need to realize they are heading for the same fate as the reps this past election unless they do what they were hired to do:
  • End the war
  • Bring the troops home
  • Impeach the AWOL CINC
  • And lock up every god-damn neocon from the Pacific to the Atlantic on charges of war crimes
That's the short list...

Numbers 1 and 2 will happen, after victory is achieved or when a new President takes over. As for numbers 3 and 4, let us know how this works out for you.

Not so fast CA, how do we specifically know when 1 is acheived?

Don't cut and run...

Answer the question!

Answer the question!

-Stable Iraq.
-Insurgent violence eliminated.
-Trained and self sufficient Iraqi security forces.
-US Generals advise us we have been victorious.

We've been saying it all along the Democrats are invested in defeat, but hay they support the troops though right? And who are we to question that? I mean they prove it on a daily basis how much they support the troops with legislation like this.

You mean the "Do Nothing Congress" that did more in the first hundred hours than Republicans did in 12 years?

I agree that this resolution is a total waste of time and resources. I had this same complaint with Republicans when they tried to pass those silly Marriage and Flag Protection Amendments and they knew they would never get through. Its a waste of taxpayer's money.

This isn't the thread to discuss this, but of the Democrats vaunted 100 hour proposals, not that much was really a big deal. If you want to talk about this elsewhere, let me know where, but lets not derail this thread.

so your happy your rep engaged in a total waste of time..........

This vote was gutless, a total act of cowardice...It means nothing....
