Typical. More guns equals more violence.

False

The reason we see this kind of violence is because we're too soft on criminals.

People would think twice before acting like this guy if after his trial, we hung him in a cage, in public, naked, until he died from thirst or exposure.

We need to be brutal to violent criminals, then they'll think twice.

I would be inclined to look closer at the person who fired the gun and what his reasons were. This doesn't appear to be a case of self defense, this murder of this young woman. What kind of animal fires a gun into a crowd just because of an argument over what? A pool game? A spilled drink? A wrong "look"?

Violence like this is not a result of guns. Something about a criminal culture going on here. It will be interesting to see what the criminal background of this murderer ends up being. I will bet dollars to donuts that he had many prior incidents indicating his violent criminal nature which were never properly addressed.

But remember, it's not that there might be a problem with having so many guns so easily accessible. It's that Americans are uniquely evil and cannot be trusted around the same guns that other countries trust people with hey wait a . . . .

I continue to have very little hope. The 2nd was already there. It has been explicitly defined as broad as hell. There is only so much that can be done that can reduce gun violence given what will stand up in court.

we have a firearm homicide about every 55 minutes.

like this woman who was gunned down a few days ago along with two other guys...

"When Burke County deputies arrived at the scene, they found Avery County sheriff’s deputies, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and first responders at the scene where three people had been shot in a domestic dispute, according to a Burke Sheriff’s Department press release

Polly Ann Keller, age 56, of the home, died at the scene, the release said.

Emergency personnel attempted to transport Jeremy Dean Clark, age 32, of 7253 Parkway Road, Newland, and Anthony Simon Franklin, age 33, of 42 George White Lane, Newland, to Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville. However, both died during transport and were pronounced dead on arrival, the press release stated."

Didn't a young gentleman just murder a fast food worker because he complained that his food lacked enough mayo?

Boy, oh boy, the pendulum of permissiveness has swung too far to the left.

In a few decades, however, it will swing back too far to the right.

Nowadays no one wants to stay in his/her lane!

No they won't. If there's one thing criminals aren't known for it's contemplating the consequences of their crimes.

And what happens when you convict the wrong person in your "brutalize criminals" scenario?

Good point, but we are still being too soft on criminals.

Lol

We lead the world in incarceration.

We have too many guns.

Period.

And that’s not a neighborhood typically known for these kinds of things.

That’s NE Philly almost in the burbs.

Philly area needs to get it together.

A typical gun owner often uses a gun this irresponsibly.

Yep. This is what guns are most used for.

Just responsible gun owners who get pissed off.

Ah yes, and I should also note that the availability of other means with which to kill people does not provide a reason to reject measures directed at one such reason.

Keep in mind, the gun was recovered at the scene.

From the article:
Officers with the 8th District recovered a weapon from the scene but did not make any arrests. The suspect is a Black male, but police did not share any further information.

Shall we take bets on whether the gun traces back to a LEGAL owner? Because I'd be willing to bet it was an illegal gun, in the hands of someone that has no business having it.

There isn't a gun law that would stop that sort of thing. You simply cannot remove all the illegal guns that are floating around in this country, it is physically impossible.

Yep, way to many guns around. We need to make them illegal.

This is correct. However, the fact that large numbers of Americans desire the freedom to own something that can kill when it is illegally misused does. And the fact that it can kill when it is illegally misused does not provide a reason to adopt measures to outlaw it in spite of the demand for it, when other things that kill even more often when misused remain legal solely because there is demand for them.

That the gun was recovered is irrelevant.

Second, it is fundamentally evasive and dishonestly so to insist that any time gun control is proposed, it's DOA unless people largely for gun rights agree that it would have stopped this crime. You can always say what if, what if, what if. We do not judge any other law by that standard. If we did, we'd have to throw out the entire criminal code because, guess what, punishing crimes doesn't deter all criminals. It's a lazy misdirection.

The point is pragmatic. The point is probability over time. The point is doing things to reduce the possibility of the wrong people getting their hands on a gun.

(And probability does not truly apply to an individual action. "It's 10% likely that you'll win" has no direct bearing on whether you'll win if you play just once; all it means is that on average - over mutliple ****loads of sets - you can expect to win one out of every ten times you play).
