2028 Democratic Primary: The Way Too Early Poll

Who should win the Democratic Nomination in 2028?

  • Total voters
    19
  • Poll closed .
Tim Walz because he has high favorabilities and support among both moderate and progressive flanks of the party. Also, name recognition is one of the most important factors in any election.

Not happening - Kamala Harris because she lost in 2024 to Trump. Democratic voters (including myself) don't want to risk running a woman and losing for a third time.

Not happening - Pete Buttigieg because he's a gay man and I see the Democratic voters wanting to distance from all the identity attacks.

Not Happening - Gavin Newson because he's too in bedded to California. I believe the Democrats will reject this.

Not Happening - AOC I'd love to see her up on the debate stage to move the conversation to the left. But as with Kamala Harris the party won't risk running a young progressive woman.

Right now the frontrunners are Walz and Shapiro.Hopefully we see more fresh faces. And possibly Andrew Yang runs again? He could also be a contender.

Only the uniformed refer to Kamala Harris as young or progressive.

The last ten Democratic nominees for President:

2024 - Kamala Harris (U.S Senator, Vice President)
2020 - Joe Biden (U.S Senator, Vice President)
2016 - Hilary Clinton (First Lady, U.S Senator, Secretary of State)
2008 & 2012 - Barack Obama (U.S Senator)
2004 - John Kerry (U.S Senator)
2000 - Al Gore (U.S Senator & Vice President)
1992 & 1996 - Bill Clinton (Governor)
1988 - Michael Dukakis (Governor)
1984 - Walter Mondale (U.S Senator, U.N Ambassador, Vice President)
1980 & 1976 - Jimmy Carter (Governor)

Seven were U.S Senators. Three were Governors. Four were former Vice Presidents.

According to the latest Echelon Insights and Morning Consult polls, Kamala Harris is averaging about 42%, Gavin Newsom & Pete Buttigieg at 8%, Tim Walz at 7%, and Josh Shapiro at 6%. Democratic voters still really love Harris, despite losing the popular vote and getting less electoral college votes than Hilary Clinton. All five of those names will be in the poll.

I will add Gretchen Whitmer (Governor of Michigan 2019-present), Wes Moore (Governor of Maryland 2023 to present), and Andy Beshear (2019-present). My wildcard entry here is going to be Jon Stewart.

Please pick three candidates.
Other. It's going to have to be a non-politician. A popular reality TV personality millionaire such as Mark Cuban. That's what the majority of Americans seem to want.

Americans electing a sexual abuser, stealer of cancer money from kids, and felon prove that Democrats need to find someone as repulsive.
Americans rejecting Harris prove that they don't want a female nor a person of color. It has to be some chalky white old man.
Democrats are disillusioned if they think Harris or Whitmer or Buttigieg have a chance of winning.

Ironically, the problem is that we have standards, and the Repub voters don't. As Van Jones said, "He gets to be lawless, she has to be flawless."

I like Mark Cuban, but not as presidential material.

Harris is cooked in politics. There's no recovery from this. Plus, she is a terrible candidate that can't persuade any new supporters from those outside diehard Democratic Party voters.

If anyone on this poll is going to stand a chance in 2028, they'd better get to work fast on rebranding their image a center-left candidate or they too will not stand a chance.
She was actually a pretty good candidate and ran a near-perfect campaign with the time she had. It just didn't matter - American wanted a politician that would shake things up. The vote wasn't anti-Harris as much as it was anti-status quo.

Turns out most people didn't vote for who you or I liked in 2 of the last 3 elections.

It goes back and forth. We won in 2008, 2012, and 2020; and lost in 2016 and 2024.

I think the energy is there for a progressive candidate, but will they win the general election when it's the Rust Belt that decides it?

Turns out "look how many Republicans like me" wasn't a good tactic for getting Democrats to vote for you!

As someone who hopes there is never another Democrat president I hope that is your list in 4 years. Surprised Liz Cheney wasn't on it.

Hakeem Jeffries would be your best bet currently imo I hope he doesn't run.

If it's an articulate progressive that makes the conversation about labor and workers rights. I believe a progressive has a chance to win the Rustbelt.

Mark Cuban is a good choice. He’s a rich white guy.
He can run against Trump or Vance or Musk or whomever else GOP throws out there.

What is your definition of a "perfect" campaign and what criteria are you using to make such a value judgment?

I feel sorry for you guys.
. You don't have any serious candidates, your legacy media is being decimated and your party has fallen into the deep end. Sadly the pool was empty.

The opposite of the type of campaign your guy ran.
You just ran that campaign. It didn't work out to well.
. You tried to hide BOTH your candidates.
. You tried to control media access.
. Everything was heavily scripted.
. Neither of your candidates told us about their grand ideas for the country.
. The media ran your campaign (not so with Trump).
. You relied heavily on celebrities.
. People still don't know what the Harris campaign was for, whereas Trump spoke about MAGA Principles for hours on end.

What a bizarre and defensive reply to a very straightforward question.

So you have no definition of a "perfect" campaign or criteria that you used to make such a value judgment.

Why didn't you just say that instead of elaborately avoiding and obfuscating the question by irrationally lashing out?

The far left wing was totally absent in the campaign of Kamala Harris. It seems some have moved so far to the right that they see moderates as left wing.
No, they kept it hidden hoping no one would notice.

Do you think they kept KH silent JUST because she was witless when it came to interviews? Of course not. The pick of Walz as the VEEP was a sign.

I did all that? Wow, you give me a lot of credit :)

Yes, and he still won easily. That should tell you how awful Harris is.
So you say. I guess we'll never know. I just know from recent history that a Trump administration is a total disaster.

You are free to use whatever "evidence" you please to bolster your incorrect theory that Harris is far left. Of course some of that "evidence" would be conspiracy theory and plain BS.

It's absolutely the case. Looks like the only one replying bizarrely and defensively is you.

Jason Kander

Going to be really hard for Democrats to find anyone better than him, if he is willing to get back into politics.
