Some states have laws allowing “faithless electors” and other prohibit it. Couldn’t say if the state party leadership will try to change the laws in their states or not.

IF they do take the peoples vote / say away from the people the people should vote them out of office and make sure they know why

I have no clue as to how things are going to evolve between now and 2024. The GOP may try to get back to its roots, or it may embrace its cray cray. I do think that all States without an official mail-in ballot system should adopt Colorado's system ASAP.
