From Draft 2020 Democratic Party Platform

Democrats will enact universal background checks, end online sales of guns and ammunition,
13 close dangerous loopholes that currently allow stalkers and some individuals convicted of assault
14 or battery to buy and possess firearms, and adequately fund the federal background check
15 system. We will close the “Charleston loophole” and prevent individuals who have been
16 convicted of hate crimes from possessing firearms. Democrats will ban the manufacture and sale
17 of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. We will incentivize states to enact licensing
18 requirements for owning firearms and “red flag” laws that allow courts to temporarily remove
19 guns from the possession of those who are a danger to themselves or others. We will pass
20 legislation requiring that guns be safely stored in homes. And Democrats believe that gun
21 companies should be held responsible for their products, just like any other business, and will
22 prioritize repealing the law that shields gun manufacturers from civil liability.

Ending internet sales of firearms and ammo makes no sense at all.
Neither does banning “assault weapons” or high capacity magazines (because neither term is well defined)
Allowing manufacturers and sellers to be sued for unlawful use of their products is just opening the door for frivolous lawsuits.

These three provisions have nothing to do with actual gun violence and are merely attacks on the firearms industry.

Safe storage laws are simply harassment laws...no one would ever be investigated for it and the only point is either to add an additional charge to whatever the cops are investigating.

Red flag laws are not necessarily bad, but it’s really difficult to write one that can’t be easily abused.

Extending the deadline for background checks isn’t horrible...an inconvenience rather than infringement, but background checks for private intrastate sales is huge overreach.

IMO the Democrats have become the party of authoritarian socialism.

So I am not surprised that they are continuing in their ongoing efforts to disarm the general population as much as they can get away with.

An armed population is the best defense against government tyranny...so in order to ensure meeker public compliance with central authority, one must disarm the population.

Better than nothing but still half measures.

None of that stuff would deter any criminal. All any of it would do is drive up costs for legal users. Most of it, if challenged would be tossed by the courts any way.

This is nothing but fodder for the lemmings. The only thing it would accomplish is making it harder for a poor person to legally own a firearm.

I wonder if they're going to change the definition of "assault weapon" yet again.

If you think law abiding Americans ought to be able to own firearms, you cannot vote for democrats running for congress, senate or president.

I think that US laws have proven over recent decades that deterrence doesn't work on its own

And that rather than concentrating on demand for firearms, we have to give equal attention to supply.

Little of it makes sense is even enforceable if enacted. Others are already law, so kinda stupid to include them in their list. This is the main issue I have with the Dems, and why they will never truly represent my POV. That said I would highly suggest that if you want an AR or AK style firearm, get it before January, same goes for mags that will hold more than 10 rounds and stock up on ammo, lots of it. Once you do nothing they dictate will matter.

Yes you can, there are far more than this one issue at risk, unless you are a one issue voter it is easy to vote for the well being of the Nation. Trump has to go, and he will so get ready for it if you haven't already, some of this will come to pass.

And, AFAIK, no Democrat running for office, has said no American should own a firearm of any type.

I cannot vote for a politician who claims honest people cannot be trusted to own the same firearms that civilian police are issued.

Well that wouldn't be politically wise, now would it?

The fact is that for decades and decades, the left has constantly pushed for more and more restrictions regarding gun ownership, with no logical stopping point in sight. It's very safe to say that virtually all of these democratic scumbags want to eviscerate gun rights at the federal level in precisely the same way they have in large, democratically controlled cities.

You do know trump holds the same attitude, he stated as much a few years ago, he just pretends he cares now because it is politically expedient. If he were re-elected and there was a horrible event involving a wackjob with an AR don't think for a second he would not ban them, especially if someone came after him with one. He doesn't care one iota about our 2nd A rights. I don't, and never would, trust trump when it comes our Rights, his loyalties are focused on himself.
At this point the odds are leaning heavily in trump being removed so with that in mind it is time to reassess where you are and fill any gaps as if you will not get a chance for a long time if ever of filling those gaps, you have until Jan 20th to get it done, after that date all bets are off. You know and I know it, it is coming.

And politicians don't usually support politically "unwise" policies

So you accept that you were wrong ?

And politicians don't usually support politically "unwise" policies

Politicians support all kinds of harmful policies, they just don't always admit to supporting them in public.

How wonderfully insightful of you

Now, what Democrat running for office, has said (or privately believes) that no American should own a firearm of any type ?

So how are you going to handle the auto manufactures. After decades people still drink and drive.

We're talking about the supply and demand for guns, stay on topic.

Why? You never do. Don't you find black cars scary? They should probably be banned. That will make people drive safer.

I try to

This is the gun control section.

Fat people should be banned as well. They scare my dog. He thinks they want to eat him.
