If you are a Democrat, and you had to choose a candidate to day to run for President in 2020, who would you choose ?

Eric Swalwell.

He's the perfect bully for a bully.

Bernie Sanders atm.

Richard Ojeda if he doesn't run.

I'm not a dem, but I'd choose someone who's poised, quippy, capable of "reading Trump for filth," but whom folks don't generally think of them as someone who would do so.
-- Any of the late night talk show hosts, though my favorite is Bill Maher.
-- Someone who grew up in a working class home/neighborhood and developed a career teaching.
The persons I have in mind as the models of what I mean are the people who "whipped" me, my siblings, friends and classmates "into shape," namely our parents and teachers. I'm talking about people who didn't wear rhetorical "gloves" when they were putting one in one's place and telling one what was wrong with one's behavior, remarks, ideas, etc.

I'm of that mind because Trump behaves and expresses himself as do little hoodlum and miscreant teenagers. His opponent should, IMO, be someone who'll lay out the whys and wherefores of what's wrong with Trump and his benighted notions in no uncertain terms, but without the veneer of decorous gentility that he's thus far received.

I'm talking about someone having the self-confidence when on a debate stage with Trump to:
  • Break out into a guffaw when Trump says something absurd, perhaps even doing this as they sip their water listening to him

    tenor.gif
  • Respond to something Trump says by beginning with something very near to this:
    • "That is the most dumbass thing I've heard in a month of Sundays, and here's why...."
    • "You lying waste of skin. You and I both know that's not true and this is why.....and you should know better than to insult the American people by having the gall to lie to them like that. Everyone can see through your crap.
  • Make clear to Trump's face their unmitigated contempt for him and everything he's said and done.
Why? Because Trump's a bully, but like bullies everywhere, he's also immensely craven. He needs to be dealt with, stood up to and challenged face-to-face, not "from behind" as do all enervated boors and bullies. He needs to be put back in his provincialist paternalist place in precisely the ways one does with "all hat and no cattle" bullies who've exhausted one's patience.

Sanders/Warren

Ojeda/Warren

I'd be just as happy either way, but for different reasons.

Beto O'Rourke

Eric Swalwell.

Bullies are craven; thus the most dangerous opponent will face, the opponent whom the bully never wants to encounter, is not another bully, but rather an otherwise "soft spoken" non-bully who's got the confidence, portfolio and self-respect to confront a bully head-on.

Yeah, no, that doesn't work.

People don't respect laid back personalities that don't fight hard.

What in my remarks led you to think I described a "laid back [person who doesn't] fight hard?"

Mitt Romney. “The rhino’s rhino”.

Romney is a fraud. That put aside...

Since you trott out "Rhino" so easily... What is your perfect example of what a Republican should be? Please say Donald Trump. Pullllheeeeeeeeeeze!

Personally, I think Warren would be a fine president but I'd like to see her as Attorney General. A position more focused on work and production rather than having to do facetime silliness like presidents have to do. Instead on focusing on how to be and where to be for a certain celebration, she'd be cranking out the work which she is good at. Looking out for the public and consumers in general.

Not a Democrat and I don't have a candidate choice. I look forward to a vigorous debate. I figure most will make approximately the same case for their candidacy, so I'll be in favor of whoever has the strongest presence and presence of mind to put the Carny-in-Chief in his place.

Imagine, functional cabinet member that like their jobs, it's a dream I know.....

Not a Democrat but I would like to see Jim Webb run. He was the best candidate either party offered up in The 2016 primary

Swalwell. Very articulate, cogent, knows to the core what America is and/or should be about. His TV comments of late are spot on. A mature head within a riot of pundits.
