2019 SOTU - Did You Watch It?

Did you watch the SOTU 2019

Why would anyone waste their time listening to his lies? **** him.

3/4 of VIEWERS LIKED IT (or, Among Speech Watchers, if you will). Closely watch the video you posted again. There's a huge difference between viewers and Americans...

And it's also being reported that this SOTU was heavily viewed by Republicans, the most since 2001, according SSRS Research, who did the polling for CBS. So that might explain who the "viewers" were, and thus the poll results.

https://ssrs.com/news/

The total number of viewers being reported for this SOTU was about 45.6 million.

I didn't vote because I didn't hate or love it...it was a typical sOTU address, with lots of promises that congress will ignore.

i watched most of it. he didn't act like he normally does at his cult rallies because someone told him that his numbers suck and that he needs to fix them by acting normal. i don't believe that he's going to behave any differently in office than he has so far, because he's a pathological liar. the best bet is for the Democrats to run a highly electable candidate and get Trump and Pence as far away from the White House as possible.

There's your BIG problem:'the best bet is for the Democrats to run a highly electable candidate'. They will never figure that out.

Couldn't be bothered. When he walked into the chamber, I turned off the TV and left the house. Won't waste my time watching any speech by this jerk if I can help it.

Looking at your aviator.. I am sure you enjoyed the BS that Ocasio-Cortez spouts...I missed seeing all those teeth.

What about the CNN poll that was higher?

occasionally they do : 1992, 1996, 2008, and 2012. they dropped the ball with Gore and HRC. they could be forgiven for Gore, as it is natural for the VP to run. however, he fell victim to the unappealing legacy candidate rule, as did HRC. Kerry wasn't a bad candidate, but he was kind of stiff and Bush was a wartime president.

i'll most likely be voting against Trump rather than voting for someone if they screw up again. that might be enough in 2020, but then again, it might not.

Its possible most of the US is insane. Just check out cnn.

As I have often pointed out, when you sit out on the far right wing of an airplane, the fuselage looks far too the left to you.

Logic would also say that when you start thinking everyone else is insane, its time consider that it may be you that is in fact "out of step". Remember that sanity is a normative behavior. The "norm" ultimately defines what is sane and what is not.

We are fundamentally a democracy. In the long-run, majority rule is the basis by which leaders are elected and policy enacted. At the moment, the majority is clearly not supportive of the direction of its leaders. In the long run, that does not work.

I didn't even realize it was on until I heard someone mention watching it. I flipped over and listened for a minute or so. I decided Evil Genius on Netflix was more interesting so I went back to that.

Is that a documentary?

You do realize that "anti-Trump 'bigots'" comprise MOST of the US population.

Are you sure..since only about 40% of America citizens voted, that hardly comprises MOST of the US population.

Bigots, btw, connote a degree of irrationality. If you don't understand why most people find the Trump presidency offensive, that is a rather irrational or an out-of-touch conclusion on your part. You can like Trump, but you should have sufficient gray matter to understand why so many people do not.

Again you use the term 'most'....I would say all the people who have gained employment since Trump would disagree with you. I would say all the people who have seen their 401K and retirement income portfolio increase due to the raising stock market investments would also disagree with you.

But wait... I said all the above without one single insult like you 'gray matter' comment.

OTHER

I sorta watched it...

i turned it on while i was on the computer... i started watching it with my full attention but then the lies started adding up so quickly i went back to my computer and let it play in the back ground. Figured no point ill read it later with multiple fact checkers that im sure that will highlight probably 50% of it has dishonest.

the response i never gave 100% too, it just played in the back ground also..

Again i can read about it and get a better, more accurate account of what was said.

Most of it. The part that stood out the most was him begging Congresss not to investigate him.

he wasn't begging . He said it was counter to productivity. [in so many words]

There's your BIG problem:'the best bet is for the Democrats to run a highly electable candidate'. They will never figure that out.

No, the best bet for the Dems is to elect a coherent, policy driven leader.... which just about anyone currently in the field will be.

Trump's path to re-election is currently blocked by debris of the landslides of disappointment he has created by not delivering on the economics he himself promised to the people of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He won a narrow victory (80,000 votes over three states) by stitching together dis-enfranchised voters in the aforementioned states that decided the economy wasn't working for them. It still isn't.

If we the 2018 results (as well as the results of all interim elections since 2016) did not tell you that the Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin path for Trump is now closed to him while Arizona and Georgia are in within the grasp of Democrats, then you really didn't pay much attention.

Perhaps this is why you should never have been taken seriously on anything - to insist on a factual absurdity is nuts. Nixon was not President in 1994 but he was in 1974. Your history education is shocking.

My history education is excellent. Occasionally, my typing skills leave something to be desired. That is probably why I taught Government and History and was not a professional secretary. It was a typo on my part - mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa ---

I posted several times this morning and the typo was not there in other posts where the year was typed correctly

https://www.debatepolitics.com/gene...ion/346540-state-union-18.html#post1069653049

In 1974, Richard Nixon, famously added the line to his State of the the Union speech that "one year of Watergate is enough" and he publicly decried the previous year of investigations. He said lots other things too and said them much better than Trump. And his loyal Republicans did their scripted job and performed like a jack-in-the-box popping up on cue just like they did last night.

190 days later he resigned in disgrace from the very scandal that he had told the country had run its course. Nixons's 1974 performance at the State of the Union meant nothing and all we remember today is the previously quoted line.

yes 1974 in the final Nixon State of the Union speech where he said :eek:ne year of Watergate is enough" and made a plea for an end to investigations. Sounds a great deal like Trump last night as part of his no peace threat to Congress if they investigated his criminal family and his corrupt campaign and his Russian and other foreign ties.

I thought Trump was a master of the moment.

What I liked is he talked in specifics and not the mealy mouth BS we have groaned through with past presidents.

I get that TDS'er's will have nothing nice to say, and I get that. But for people who care about the country it was a win for Trump and may also shame the democrats into cooperating with Trump on important areas.

I hear OAC was bummed that Trump say "That's a big negatory to socialism". She sat there in a pout.

OAC pouted the whole night and looked like an idiot. She is pretty hot though!

Nah.

I will not follow you off a mental cliff just simply because you lose 1 lawful election.

Sane people just go vote legally the next time.

Sacrificing the future to win 1 game is not a good look.

Couldn't be bothered. When he walked into the chamber, I turned off the TV and left the house. Won't waste my time watching any speech by this jerk if I can help it.

So you wasted your time watching this up until the point he walked into the chamber? Where did you go when you left the house? Are you ok now?

I watched most of it. Didn't hate or love it.

Didn't want to waste my time watching the Deceiver In Chief for God knows how long he was going to prattle on with his deceits, outright lies, and illegitimate boasts.

Not when I had so many stored up shows on the DVR like Dynasties, Planet Earth II or TCM Classics like Billy Budd or Showboat!

Besides I knew the networks would give good slicing and dicing of his BS afterwards, and I actually prefer to read the transcript, which i am working on!

I think 90% of you who say you didn't watch it actually did. If Trump had blown it we would have about 40 pages of your anti Trump nonsense. Since Trump knocked it out of the park you all are pretending to have done other stuff. You even feel the need to describe in detail what you did. You all are so insecure you actually feel the need for what your excuse was. What a bunch of liars. those of you who didn't watch the SOTU because it wasn't your boy are immoral anti American scum. I don't blame those who just didn't feel like watching it. For you anti Trumpers, keep sticking your head in the sand so we can continue kicking your asses!

So much for comity. What a joke.

Always watch the SOTU speech. Plus for Trump: He must be practicing speaklng English and staying on script, one of his better public speaking outings.

Negatives for Trump: TOO many lies. He lies about the border wall, he lies about the economy, he totally disregards the truth when speaking of Reproductive rights in a painfully obvious pander to the religious right. He sought applause by claiming democrats want a socialist nation. Sad. Sad.Sad

I watched both the SOTU and the Dem Response. Although Ms. Abrams has a much better way with words, and may speak a bit more eloquently than the President, I feel as the Dem Response was a bit doom and gloom. The President's message was positive and uplifting with also a some unifying aspects. Overall If feel it was one of the better SOTU in the past 20 years. Even though it will probably not carry much weight for him, it is great to see the President trying hard to speak for all Americans.
