20 U.S. service members killed in Iraq - Yahoo! News

At least 20 American service members were killed in military operations Saturday in the deadliest day for U.S. forces in two years, including 13 who died in a helicopter crash and five slain in an attack by militia fighters in the holy city of Karbala, military officials said.

It could be worse?

Of course it could.

Yeah I guess.....I mean...it's not like we dont have a plan....an actual plan...it's not like we're just babysitting the product of a failed experiment in democracy....it's not like our soldiers are dying just waiting for the Bush administration to come up with something coherent to say....it's not like the Iraqi goverment has proven itself to be a massive failure who is unable to agree on even the smallest things. Wait....no...it could be alot worse....:doh

It's obvious you missed the President's speech last week. He outlined a very detailed plan for Iraq. Not the same 'stay the course' stuff that you have objected to for so long, but an altered direction, a more refined plan...with benchmarks and deadlines and a plan for handing the mission over to Iraq. Oh that's right, that isn't good enough for you. And the democratic plan is...? Oh yeah, fleeing.

Yeah I guess
What do you mean "you guess"?
20 deaths in one day -- 12 from an accident that could have happened anywhere -- is in your mind, "as bad as it can get"?

Please note that your source describes that as the WORST day for US losses since the way began in March 2003. If 20 in one day - 12 from an accident - is the WORST day of almost 4 years of war, then our casualties over the course of that 4 years of war must be pretty darn light.

Tell me: How American soldiers died on 3 JUL 1863?

If you had any degree of historical perspective, you'd know that. You dont, so all you see here is an opportunity ro present partisan attacks on the President rather than do anything worthwhile.

And hey -- how about some commentary on this:

The gunmen who killed five U.S. troops in the Shiite holy city of Karbala wore military uniforms and used vehicles commonly driven by foreign dignitaries — an apparent attempt to impersonate Americans,

Had we shot up these people in anticipation of them being insurgents and they were then found to be exactly what they lookied like, you;d be the first to whine about the incompetency of US troops and their leadership, and you'd be shouting "Bush is a war criminal!!!" at the top of your lungs.

The simple truth here:
The more troops die the worse the President looks and thus the happier you are.

Exactly. The more servicemen and women we lose, the more the Bush haters celebrate.

Here's an update on that :

3000. 3 More then 9/11 so far.

At the battle of Gettysbourg? 7-8000. Give or take a few hundred. Why are you comparing the civil war to this failed experiment in democracy we call Iraq?

How does the change the fact that we're babysitting the Iraqis?

Your ignorance about who I am shows your complete partisanship. I've defended Bush on many occasions. Sure he's a bit of a nutcase but a war criminal?

Bush couldn't look worse if he wore a shitsuit and a sailor's hat. Please wake up.

3000. 3 More then 9/11 so far.
And its STILL the lowest casualty rate for an extended large scale military campaign in hsitory.

YOU are the one talking about 23 killed in one day and thinking that it can't be worse. Clearly it -can- be worse, as anyone with any perspective knows.

More soldiers died in the first 10 seconds of D-day...

Bush couldn't look worse if he wore a shitsuit and a sailor's hat. Please wake up.
LOL
And you say you aren't partisan...
LOL

Now tell me -- if not to make Bush look bad, why would you start this topic and then ask if it can be worse?

If you guys don't mind, I have a request. While we are bashing each other over whether or not these guys died in vain, and whether or not one side or the other is patriotic or not, could we please have a moment of silence, and pray for them and their families? Thank you.

Right...let's forget that there are still 30,000 dead Iraqis.

The difference is WW2 and the Civil war were worth it. Was this? :)

LOL

Am I? I could rant about Bush all day and I still couldn't make Bush's image any worse.

Now tell me -- if not to make Bush look bad, why would you start this topic and then ask if it can be worse?

I simply posted the article. Our soldiers are dying as babysitters. Not warriors. For a war thats not even worth it and a people that'll probably harbor terrorists tomorrow. BTW hows that plan coming along?

Right...let's forget that there are still 30,000 dead Iraqis.
And how many dead Japanese/Germans?
No matter how you call it -- the death count, in comparison, is low.

The difference is WW2 and the Civil war were worth it. Was this? :)
You preseume that it isnt.
Why?

Am I? I could rant about Bush all day and I still couldn't make Bush's image any worse.
Yes. You are.
The more that die, the worse he looks and the happier you are.

I simply posted the article.
And added partisan commentary.

Why are you comparing 2 very different situations?

You preseume that it isnt.
Why?

Are you reluctant to awnser because the awnser you have in mind would make you look like a hallucinating bushnevik?

Was Iraq worth it?

Yes. You are.
The more that die, the worse he looks and the happier you are.

Any proof to these allegations?

And added partisan commentary.

Only in your eyes.

Hatuey, your glee for the dead is appalling.

Preemptive strike, guys, before things start getting bad; debate the topic, please

An estimated 1.2 million people die in auto accidents per year worldwide and 42 million injured.

Get rid of cars, stop the madness!!!

One of the best requests I've ever seen on this site. I second the motion.
