Twenty Congress members have called on President Obama to take action to protect the rights of Palestinian children.
The lawmakers sent the president a letter on June 20, urging him to appoint a “special envoy for Palestinian youth” in order to monitor the Israeli government’s violation of Palestinian children’s human rights.
The letter (embedded below), notes that Palestinian children are “growing up under military occupation with very few opportunities to improve their lives.”
The letter describes the occupation as “an unimaginably difficult and at times hopeless environment,” where children “live under the constant fear of arrest detention and violence at the hands of the Israeli military.”

The 20 lawmakers raised concerns about Israel’s frequent imprisonment of Palestinian children as young as 12, sometimes without charge or trial.
UNICEF, Human Rights Watch, the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem and other rights groups have documented Israel’s systematic abuse of Palestinian children.

The letter was initiated by Rep. Betty McCollum, a Democrat representing Minnesota. Salon spoke with McCollum, who emphasized, “Military prisons for 12-year-old Palestinian children is inhuman. It totally dehumanizes them and it’s an abuse of Palestinian human rights. That needs to stop.”
“I want the Israeli people to have peace and security, but I also want Palestinian children and their parents to have security, dignity, justice and equality,” she added.

What are they asking Obama to do about it? A 'special envoy'? What about a few 'non-binding' resolutions. That'll show 'em! The fact is that this conflict has been nothing but exacerbated by US intervention from the start.

Oh, and tell your kids that Israel has a right to exist.

How is Israel suppose to answer force with force, if the Palestinians intermix their children with targets? Or should Israel just stop fighting all together until a politically correct ration of 1:1 exists? I don't believe Israel security forces seek out children to abuse, rather they are usually arrested with the parents, or are doing crimes on their own.

There is a lot more to this story. Either Israel surrenders, or the Palestinian Authority does, until then the Israelis are just better at keeping their children out of trouble. Damn Israelis just won't leave.

I'm skeptical.

Locking up children in military prisons is not only inhumane its also not how you gain security.

yes, yes. Israel imprisons Palestinian "children". And when Israel kills Hamas militants who are under 18 it also "kills "Palestinian children". We've seen this propaganda card played a few too many times by the anti-Israel crowd who pretend they care about the Palestinians.

And, shockingly, the way to fix it isn't to end Palestinian child abuse (see Hamas's Child Abuse Camps, https://www.algemeiner.com/2015/08/...gaza-another-form-of-palestinian-child-abuse/, https://themiddleeastconflict.com/the-conflict-explained/palestinian-child-abuse/, Child Abuse as Public Policy in the Palestinian Authority | Frontpage Mag, http://www.therebel.media/palestinian_brainwashing_is_child_abuse, http://www.israeltoday.co.il/NewsItem/tabid/178/nid/25553/Default.aspx, http://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/7804/palestinian-children-torture, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...rforming-military-style-terrorist-drills.html ad infinum), but to give the Palestinian terrorists what they want by reducing Israel's ability to protect itself from those who want to murder its people and destroy their nation.

Fact is, "children" in this propaganda nonsense are defined as anyone under 18. So when Israel detains a Palestinian shooter or someone who threw firebombs at cars or someone who stabbed an old woman repeatedly with a knife and that Palestinian terrorist is under 18 (see above links for why), the propagandists get to shout from the mountaintops about how Israel details "children" (See, e.g., http://www.israeltoday.co.il/NewsItem/tabid/178/nid/27754/Default.aspx).

It is sick and twisted, and this sort of propaganda warfare undertaken by the anti-Israel shills and fronts in the west is precisely why the Palestinians train their children to be depraved terrorist murderers. So that when Israel takes steps to defend itself the anti-Israel crowd can yell at the Jews that they are not fighting fair in their efforts to protect their lives and liberty.

Let me follow your logic here. Since Hamas abuses Palestinian children therefore its okay for Israel to abuse Palestinian children?

Re: 20 Congress members send Obama letter requesting protection of Palestinian childr

Let me follow your logic here. Since Hamas abuses Palestinian children therefore its okay for Israel to abuse Palestinian children?

That's not a very good job of following.

Since the "children" here are, for the most part, teens brainwashed since they were little kids who were stopped from murdering, attempting to murder or assaulting Jews, the "Israelis are arresting Palestinian 'children'" cry is nothing more than manipulative propaganda. They are under 18 but are full combatants in the Palestinians' war against the Jews.

Beyond that, the "concern" of the anti-Israel crowd shedding crocodile tears for these "children" because they were unable to murder Jews due to their arrests is quite obviously exposed as a lie when you compare that "concern" to the interest these folks show about fixing the systematic brainwashing and child abuse undertaken by the Palestinians for "the cause".

So you end up with this being yet another example of manipulative empty propaganda by those who don't actually care about Palestinian children but just want to stick it to the Jews.

Ah yes. So since they are brainwashed therefore they should be arrested. And it totally justifies all the following abuses by the Israeli state against Palestinian kids:
"Out of 429 West Bank children detained between 2012 and 2015, three-quarters endured some form of physical violence following arrest.

In 179 out of 429 cases (41.7 percent), the Israeli military arrested children from their homes in the middle of the night. In 378 out of 429 cases (88.1 percent), Israeli forces arrested children without notifying parents of the reason for arrest or the location of detention.

In 416 out of 429 cases (97 percent), children had no parent present during the interrogation or access to legal counsel. Israeli police also did not properly inform children of their rights in 84 percent of the cases.

Interrogators used position abuse, threats, and isolation to coerce confessions from some of these children. DCIP documented 66 children held in solitary confinement, for an average period of 13 days, during the reporting period. In 2015, Israeli authorities held Abdel-Fatah Ouri, 17, in isolation for 45 days. More than 90 percent of children held in solitary confinement provided a confession.

Israeli military court judges seldom exclude confessions obtained by coercion or torture, even those drafted in Hebrew – 144 out of 429 cases (33.6 percent) – a language that most Palestinian children do not understand. In fact, military prosecutors rely on these confessions to obtain a conviction.

Israeli authorities transfer nearly 60 percent of Palestinian child detainees from occupied territory to prisons inside Israel in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, according to IPS data. Many parents struggle to obtain entry permits to Israel, and children have limited family visits.

cases documented by DCIP showed 69.2 percent of detained Jerusalem children suffered some form of physical violence at the hands of Israeli forces compared to 74.5 percent of West Bank children. For night arrest cases, there was nearly no difference between the two groups." REPORT: No Way to Treat a Child | Defense for Children Palestine

Re: 20 Congress members send Obama letter requesting protection of Palestinian childr

Ah yes. So since they are brainwashed therefore they should be arrested.

No, because they murder, try to murder or assault people they should be arrested.

This isn't hard.

And it totally justifies all the following abuses by the Israeli state against Palestinian kids:
"Out of 429 West Bank children detained between 2012 and 2015, three-quarters endured some form of physical violence following arrest.

"some sort", eh? I sense some pretty big manipulation behind the data here. Oh right - "physical violence, which typically consists of being pushed, slapped, punched, kicked, or struck with a soldier’shelmet or rifle". So being pushed while being arrested is being subject to "physical violence". What proportion of folks detained on the streets in the US are pushed while they are being cuffed?

Incidentally, of these "429 west bank children", how many were over, say, 16? How many were under 16 but arrested while attacking people? How many were destroying property deployed for security? How many were violent in resisting arrest?

You don't know any of that and you don't care. Because "429 children" is a propaganda point, nothing more.

In 179 out of 429 cases (41.7 percent), the Israeli military arrested children from their homes in the middle of the night. In 378 out of 429 cases (88.1 percent), Israeli forces arrested children without notifying parents of the reason for arrest or the location of detention.

Age breakdown?

Oh right. 414 were over 14 and 302 were over 16.

In 416 out of 429 cases (97 percent), children had no parent present during the interrogation or access to legal counsel. Israeli police also did not properly inform children of their rights in 84 percent of the cases.

Look, I know you are a big fan of due process for terrorists and you don't give a damn about Israeli security concerns or the lives of Israelis. But this is just silly. Military interrogations of 17 year olds arrested for planning to murder people need to be done without having terrorists' parents there to gab about what is discussed or putting pressure on their kids to shut their mouths.

(etc, just more copying from the propaganda report)

yes yes. And of course this Abdel guy doesn't seem to exist outside of this propaganda report, but why don't you let us know why he was arrested and what he did to end up in solitary?

Let's turn this around, shall we.

The Palestinians have militarized their children to an unprecedented degree. They are taught from the youngest age that the best they can aspire to be is someone who dies murdering Jews and that they owe everything they have to the cause of "liberating historic Palestine". They attend summer camps that teach them how to be little soldiers. They attend schools where kindergarden graduation ceremonies involve mock kidnappings and military displays to show how brave the young tots are. They go to schools named after terrorists, play sports in squares and stadia named after terrorists, and walk down streets named after people whose sole "contribution" to the cause was to murder Jews. They are regularly employed in "pallywood" confrontations where they are purposely placed in harms way and forced to agitate soldiers to generate media materiel for the Palestinians' war efforts (indeed some of these pics make their way into the propaganda report you are peddling).

And yet, in spite of all of this, the vast majority of the precious young children arrested are 16 or 17 years old (i.e., not the sort of "children" the propagandists want their dupes to picture when consuming their propaganda), the majority of the rest are 15, and there are only around 200 Palestinian "children" detained in any given month (again, the majority of which are over 16). That number is surprisingly low given the purposeful militarization of their children by the Palestinians and ceaseless Palestinian efforts to use these children for propaganda purposes.

Ultimately, all of this stops when the Palestinians want it to stop. They could have had peace and independence before and could have it now. But as long as they refuse to make peace with the Jews, Israel will need to maintain the safety of its citizens. And Palestinian militarization and brainwashing of their children is one of the root causes of the continuation of this conflict.

Maybe you missed the part that Palestinian childrens were trying to kill innocents in the last Intifada.
In the war against Israel everything is kosher for the Arabs, even sending kids to make terror attacks. So dont expect Israel will let that happened just because they are under 18, ridiculous.

In the war against Israel everything is kosher for the Arabs, even sending kids to make terror attacks. So dont expect Israel will let that happened just because they are under 18, ridiculous.

As just one illustration of what I was saying:

Mother of Palestinian Who Killed Two Israeli Rabbis Makes Victory Sign at Site of Attack | The Tower

The mother of a Palestinian who murdered two Israelis in the Old City of Jerusalem last October was photographed flashing a victory sign when revisiting the site of the deadly attack
..
nearby Palestinians watched the attack without interfering, with one youth slapping her while she was on the ground and another telling her to “drop dead” when she asked him to help her escape with her wounded son and infant daughter.
...
“I will always be proud that my son sacrificed his life for the liberation of his homeland,” said Suhair Halabi after Muhannad carried out the killings. The Surda-Abu Qash municipality in the northern West Bank decided to rename a street after Muhannad on October 13, less than 10 days after the attack. The mayor of the municipality, where a memorial to the terrorist was erected, called him “a pride and badge of honor for the whole village.”
Halabi was also praised by the PA Bar Association, which awarded him a law degree posthumously, as well as by Sultan Abu Al-Einein, an advisor to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who wrote in a Facebook post, “We loved you, Muhannad. We loved you, while you sowed life for all Palestinians.”

So you have a systematic dysfunction in Palestinian society focusing relentless efforts on murdering Jews. And yes, since the Palestinians have recruited their children into this depraved game, it means Israel, in protecting its people, needs to arrest minors involved in Palestinian depravity.

While some folks here hate it that the Israelis are willing to defend themselves, and others really don't like how good the Israelis are at it, that's their problem.
