18 REASONS THE U.S. EDUCATION SYSTEM IS FAILING

Si...

She wasn''t the only one?
lol...you're doubling down on a bad argument. That's funny. But, bringing up Noah to justify prepping for the apocalypse is funnier.

You see, you fail to prove she didn't get an EDUCATION
No, I am pointing out that your ideal (1950 and 60, as you stated) was a period of exclusion. Now, why would a white guy living in Idaho want to exclude blacks from education?

No, I'm not. I happen to live in a Social Democracy. But, you don't!

My Healthcare is nearly free. It costs me $15 to see a doctor - and in the US it costs you $100 (on average). Moreover, all further medications/operations are fully covered by National Healthcare in the EU.

There is simply NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THE TWO (US & EU) when it comes to Healthcare! Maybe you'll remember that the next time your in a hospital? And probably not!

As for post-secondary (university) schooling, it costs me $1500 per child per year. You're in for something like $25K per year in a private university and $10K if state-run ... !

PS: Oh yeah, I forgot. If you graduate from a university like HahVahd, everybody kisses your u-no-what. Well, of course, at a yearly-tuition of $54K that's probably no surprise.
PPS: Teacher salaries at Harvard University can range up to $94K.
PPPS: Average Income World Map here.
Your own cited quote said Social Democracy falls under Socialism. And yes, you have some nice benefits, which you pay very high taxes to support. There is no free lunch.

The failing educational system is demonstrated in the number of secondary-school students who go on to a post-secondary level of instruction. Simply because it is the advanced-degree - in this day and age - that will be necessary to access a higher level of income. (Whether it is skills-training, or any advanced-degree beyond.)

Without an advanced-degree the jobs available are limited by the fact that those that once existed have long-since high-tailed it to Central America and/or China. Or, also, the competition from low skilled migrants entering the US escaping poverty in Central America.

From the NCES: Immediate College Enrollment Rate

In 2019, about 44 percent of high school completers immediately enrolled in 4-year institutions and 22 percent immediately enrolled in 2-year institutions. Of the 3.2 million high school completers who graduated in the first 9 months of 2019, some 2.1 million, or 66 percent, were enrolled in college in October 2019.

And those numbers look pretty good! Still, two-thirds (66%) is still insufficient - that number should be in the 90% range. Which it could be, but does it contain those who go on to obtain a Training Certificate in any schooling that teaches particular skills and/or competencies? That point is not clear.

We must have a better understanding of their ability to enter a higher pay-scale - which is or should be a key to their ability to cope with a significant amount of debt for their post-secondary schooling lives. A post-secondary degree in America is not cheap!

And the reason for that is that teachers of those classes are not inexpensive. And that cost is unlikely to diminish in the future ....

One of the biggest reasons is that this country has a deep mistrust of education and a strong anti-intellectual mindset. It prizes and worships money or celebrity far more than education. Just witness how many Americans took the word of Donald Trump over all the scientists and doctors on the planet- on everything from the pandemic to climate change. Advertisers know bringing in some famous actor or sports celebrity to speak to some social policy or public health issue does far more to convince the masses than some egghead wonk.
I might mention that science did not speak with one voice on the best way to deal with covid.

Japanese scientists convinced Japanese politicians not to close anything down.

I could speak of Italian scientists which had a very different view or Swedish scientists who had yet another view or American scientists or the Nederlands scientists here.

To say that any leader was dealing with settled scientific truth in this pandemic is to skew the reality of what happened.

History will sort this out because right now there is far too much emotion.

Can you describe for me the ideal educational system because I think the system here is quite good.

Republicans are trying to destroy public schools with vouchers and college is too expensive for many to consider giving it a shot.

Democrats are such hypocrites that they preach the benefits of public education and then send their children to private schools, as did Bill and Hillary Crooked Clinton, Fat Al and Tipper Gore,
Barack and Michael Obama to name but a few leftist hypocrites.

I preach the benefits of basic public support of orphanages too. But I didn’t send my kids there. Does that make me a hypocrite?

JUST THE FACTS, MA'AM*

From here: How Many Americans Have a College Degree?

  • Nearly 94 million, or 42%, of Americans ages 25 and over have a college degree of some type.
  • White Americans make up the overwhelming majority of degree-holders.
  • The District of Columbia has the highest percentage of college-degree holders.
In 2017, more than four in 10 adults in the U.S. ages 25 and older had attained an associate degree or higher (44.4 percent), followed by 28.8 percent whose highest level of education was completing high school, 16.3 percent who had some college but no degree, and 10.4 percent who had less than a high school education.

That 44% is not nearly enough! Especially given the fact that low-cost manufacturing skedaddled to China and Central America in the 1990s!

The number of students obtaining a higher level of post-secondary education should be in the high eighties and it is isn't! Why? Because it aint cheap! That's why!

The cost of a post-secondary education (around $25K a year in state-schools) in the US is too damn expensive! Here in France it cost me $1500 a year to send my kids to university!

And whyzat? Because a post-secondary education is the highest funded of the French government's disbursements. It does not waste its money on having per-capita the most expensive DoD on earth ... !

CALIFORNIA, HERE I COME ... ?

And when one thinks of the consequences of NOT obtaining a post-secondary degree, the thought is staggering.

A post-secondary degree is clearly the open-door to Much Higher Salaries. Which is why it worthwhile pursuing one - if you can afford to do so. And, THAT is the hitch!

Anybody in a family with an annual income of around $25K a year is barely making a living - and that is (today) measured at 22% of All-American-Families (from Statista here).

For a percentage breakdown of households (families) by income-level click here:
Statistic: Number of households in the United States by household income in 2019 (in millions)

Note in the above link that half the American family-population live at an income of less than $50K a year. So, what's a "livable income" in the US? From the Insider here (but note that you cannot open that site with the google browser you may be using - so see below*). From that site given, this quote:
The median necessary living wage across the entire US is $67,690. The state with the lowest annual living wage is Mississippi, with $58,321. The state with the highest living wage is Hawaii, with $136,437. Other expensive states (unsurprisingly) included New York and California, which have notoriously high costs of living and expensive housing markets.

So, going to California ain't so great an idea as many people may think ...

Better to let all the students escape the burning building, than forcing them to try to put out the fire trapped in the building because of economic reasons. As for college expenses, there are plenty of price points but consider that many in college shouldn't be there or can do better without it. $5k/year isn't that expensive for someone willing to work.

The above title from here: 18 REASONS THE U.S. EDUCATION SYSTEM IS FAILING

Excerpt:

Where there's a common will there is also a way.

America does not yet have that common-will for Education. And in this brave-new-world of Services Industry jobs that will sustain the economy it is key to a national solution for all ...

Being anti-intellectual and distrusting the experts, those who did get an education, is a sign of manhood and a rite of passage for being a proper conservatives these days.
