According to Canadian officials, they were in the final stages of preparing to commit a 911 type attack on several buildings in Toronto, using fertilizer bombs of the same type used to bring down the Murrah building in Oklahoma City. All suspects are Canadian citizens.

Article is here.

This is just scary.

What the hell is wrong with these people? How can they plan to kill hundreds of their fellow citizens like that? And there was also that big raid in the UK.
It's the same all over the world.

Thank God they were stopped in time!

Thanks to our robust and diverse culture, we can't easily understand such things. Radical Islam trumps nationalistic sentiments and any loyalty to their own fellow Muslims. This problem is not unique to Islam. Extreme and violent fundamentalism is the dark familiar of each of the great monotheist religions. The rise of intolerance during periods of accelerated change is as predictable as the sun rise. When familiar walls fall down, the weak fortify themselves with a faith of stone, impenetrable to reason, evidence, or mercy (We've seen todays form of Islamic religious fanaticism before in the form of European Christianity in the early 16th century). When their faith is under "assault" and the social order cracks apart, human beings do not want explanations; they want reassurance and someone to blame.

Our problems with religious tyrants and God-haunted terrorists are never with strong men, but with weak men desperate to prove their strength to their God. (Read Ralph Peters)

The men, dubbed "home-grown terrorists" by the Canadian media, were scheduled to appear in court later Saturday to hear terrorism-related charges. The subjects were held at a police station in Pickering, 18 miles west of downtown Toronto, with heavy security posted outside the building. Police said they were not permitted to give any information about the five juveniles.

I don't think we will be finding radical Islamic terrorists when the dust clears, but an amateur group of wannabes, including five juveniles among this Canadian born group. I don't dismiss the potential danger that any of these people represented (Columbine was just two kids), but this is not an A'Q sponsored action IMO.

Of course. They were just inspired by Al Qaida they weren't really members as far as I know.

But that's the same with many of these terrorists around the world. They might be just local jihadies who want to play terrorists, but they're just as dangerous.

Oh, you're absolutely right. Though it is entirely possible, it's doubtful that it was sponsered by Al-Queda. Just a bunch of Islamists (and non) inspired by Bin Ladden and his twisted cause. He has managed to convince countless Muslims that his vision of Islam is of the purest kind.

Well, Ottowa didn't seem to mind when their Iranian-born Canadian photojournalist, Zahra Kazemi, was beaten to death by an Iranian official in August 2004.

It barely was important enough to be a story past 1 week.
