The United Nations General Assembly called on Israel to “renounce possession of nuclear weapons” in a 153-6 vote on Monday, with 25 abstentions. Israel was asked “not to develop, produce, test or otherwise acquire nuclear weapons.”

Need one ask who the six rouge states were who want Israelis to keep their 90 nuclear warheads while they daily warn of Iran which has 0? Well Israel of course and equally of course the USA/Canada which leaves three, commonly confused with printer's errors on a map and who let the USA do their thinking for them in matters of foreign policy: the Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, and the Marshall Islands. Could Pompeo find these places on his own map, one wonders. Some of us at one time considered Canada to be a sovereign independent country. Not any longer.

Forget it, Israel is much like India in this regard. Neither one signed relevant UN sponsored agreements on this subject nor do they intend to.

It is a bit like trying to put the cat back in the bag... good freaking luck.

Israel is still surrounded by their enemies, their only real ally is the US, and as long as key nations in that area Perdue weapons up to and including nuclear there is no reason for Israel to all of a sudden give a shit what the UN says.

And on that subject, the UN has been pathetically worthless at really changing anything. The entire organization has devolved into a massive group of bureaucratic squabbling idiots all with self-serving interests devoid of any real international advancement.

That ship has sailed, there is no reason for Israel to give up anything at this point.

They want conflict and will get it for generations to come, all evidence supporting.

The resolution was part of a large package of resolutions approved by the General Assembly in New York, calling for nuclear disarmament globally and in the region. It is also part of a package of close to 20 annual UNGA resolutions considered to be anti-Israeli and pro-Palestinian.

The Palestinian Authority was among the sponsors of this non-proliferation resolution, as were Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

Imagine that... Some of the nations (and a wanna be nation) that have or still do look for the destruction of Israel were behind this...

And "rogue nations" that simply want Israel to defend themselves.....

You write like a very conservative American.
That's because I am. the UN is nothing but an albatross around Israel's neck as well as a pain in the ass for the US. I know, Israel and the US can bail out on the UN and we can tell the UN to pack their shit and get the hell out of our contry.

The name "United Nations", coined by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt was first used in the Declaration by United Nations of 1 January 1942, during the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their Governments to continue fighting together against the Axis Powers. It is an American idea and brave Americans have given their lives as UN troops. Shame on you to dishonor their memory.

How is it dishonoring when the UN, who supports Euroweenie Socialist utopias and Turd world dictatorships, does nothing BUT bash the US and Israel.

The USA has a permanent seat on the Security Council and uses its veto to support Israeli policy toward the Palestinian civilians and consistently provides political cover for Israel. I notice the Canadians are indistinguishable from the USA in their support of Israel being a nuclear weapons country, the only one in the Middle East.

Israel needs those nukes to fend off Iran.

Israel has every right to that land
President Obama agreed with you during the wholesale slaughter of Palestinian children and their families in Gaza in 2014 by the Israel Defense Forces.

Following the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teenagers by Hamas members, the IDF conducted Operation Brother's Keeper to arrest militant leaders, Hamas fired rockets into Israel and a seven-week conflict broke out.

Suggestion... Don't kidnap and murder teens...

Honestly, while I'm usually a harsh critic of Israel's internal policy, it makes sense for them to hold onto their nukes. The perpetual violence in the middle east is likely kept at a much lower level because of them... MAD is still a thing - sad, but absolutely necessary in a region that can't seem to evolve.

MAD doesn't apply here though. The Israelis have them and nobody else is allowed them as a counter balance. Thus Israel, since having nukes, has attacked Lebanon on numerous occasions and has violated it's airspace, including to launch attacks on Syria, around a thousand times in 2020 alone ( see link )

It has attacked Gaza on around 8 occasions since 2000 alone.

It attacked Iraqs nuclear reactor

It has attacked Tunis

It is carrying out terror attacks in Iran

Attacking Syria over the last 8 or so years

so, if we want to see a MAd situation there has to be a nuclear threat to Israel to reign in it's constant attacks on others and/or force it into a position to resolve the conflict with the Palestinians

There have been mutterings about a WMD free zone in the ME since the Hussein regime ruled Iraq. The Arabs are right to question this heavily one sided situation imo

It kinda does, man. You know me well enough to know that I don't excuse their BS. But without military superiority, the Arab world would have swallowed them a long time ago. That's truth too, man. They're never going to stop their skirmishes, but nuclear weapons will prevent it from going past a certain point. Based on how this vote went, Israel's counter balance includes a number of countries with nuclear weapons.

Now...that said... I don't have a problem with Iran having them either. In a perfect world, none would have them....but if one gets them, everyone should have them. Everyone should be massively disincentivized when it comes to destroying the world...apparently this is as far as we've evolved as a species, so ... yeah, nukes for everyone.

Of course I know you well enough to know you don't excuse their stuff and I don't think your posts do that. So, my point was and remains, where its the deterrent for to stop Israeli mititarism against Arabs in the region ? I know you have sussed this too by referencing Iran being allowed them, so we are not at odds here imo

I also agree that the general direction should be the reducing of nuclear weapons for everyone, we a view to ending the threat someday, but we have to be realistic about just how feasible that is or not. The prospects don't look good and that's why we the people, as is stated in the UN Charter ( not we the governments ), should be doing all we can NOT to support our own nations military follies/crimes or that of allies.

Back to the point, would a nuclear armed Iran be preferable or would a de nuked Israel be the better alternative? Recall there are already many UNSC UNGA resolutions stating a vision of a WMD free ME. Israel has such a military supremacy with the US having it's back anyhow, do they really need the added deterent of nuclear weapons ? It's an interesting subject and opinions are sure to be wildly different don't you think ?

Let the games begin lol

OP brought it up with this hyperbolic gem.

President Obama agreed with you during the wholesale slaughter of Palestinian children and their families in Gaza in 2014 by the Israel Defense Forces.

Please fail again.

Oh, and before you cry about derailing you should reconsider your childish posts in the Palestinian weapons thread.

Unilateral disarmament doesnt make sense especially in israel’s case.

It is the regional superpower that has the only true global superpower, at least in military terms, watching it's back. Why the need for nukes as well ? People are not suggesting they disarm, only that they give up their nukes or we see another on the other side acting as a counter balance MAD brake on Israeli militarism.
