11 Random Songs on your MP3 player/computer

shuamort said:
Since some of us have MP3 players or large amounts of MP3s on our computers, I thought the random game might be a bit fun. Set your player to random and list the first 11 songs that come up (no cheating by omission of the embarrassing ones!).

Here's my list from my iPod:
First Attempt:
John Wesley Harding-"Bastard Son"
Ferron-"Ain't Life a Brook" (I'm gonna see her tonight. Woot!)
Robbie Williams- Eternity (There's an embarrassing one).
Wendy Bucklew- "Right Between"
Coldplay- "Sparks"
Poi Dog Pondering- "A Love Rains Down"
Patty Larkin- "Valentine"
Mary Chapin Carpenter- "Passionate Kisses"
Fiona Apple- "Extraordinary Machine"
Amy Winehouse- "Moody's Mood for Love"
Bruce Springsteen- "Mary's Place"

Second Attempt:
Seal-"Waiting for You (Thick D Remix)"
Poe-Wild
Throwing Muses-"Bea"
Sister Hazel-"Everybody"
John Hammond-"2:19"
Morrissey- "Driving Your Girlfriend Home"
Holly Cole- "I've Just Seen a Face"
Ryan Adams- "You Don't Know Me"
Suzy Bogguss- "It's Always New To Me"
Anders Parker- "Keep Me Hanging On"
Dead Milkmen- "Lucky"

Phew, if i hasnt come across this opertunity for pointless procrastination i would have to do work, thank you

Piterhosen-Martin White
Same Deep Water- I am Kloot
Catapult-R.E.M
Ball and buiscuit-The White Stripes
Showbuiz-Muse
Bones-Radiohead
Eight Days A Week-The Beatles
Blew-Nirvana

Wasting Time-Jack Johnson
Slow Hands-Interpol

I'm also a HUGE Radiohead fan. They seem to be a love them or hate them sort of band. But their music has a very profound, visceral impact on me. Eh, it's all subjective anyway....musical tastes.

The song "Let Down" does it for me. I know what you mean about visceral reactions because even without words, this one would elicit justthat in me. It has such a -- I don't know what to call it, like a crystaline quality to it with the layered guitars, and as they constantly build up the tension it's like the song itself is about to shatter.

I think it's really beautiful, myself.

Lord, you guys really know how to make a guy feel old. :(

I would be hard pressed to narrow it down to one song. I do have album preferences though - The Bends. The Bends made a very rough couple of years in a strange place bearable for me. It was like a piece of happiness and familiarity that I brought with me. I will always have very fond feelings for that album - it is wholly my favorite Radiohead disc. I know what you mean about Let Down, though, and your description is very nice! Many Radiohead songs have that same quality, I think - their music is densely layered, inventive and, for me, physically & emotionally affecting - I just think they are ingenious. I've even been known to call them this generation's Beatles only no one seems to know it, but shhhhhh, sometimes it makes people upset.
My other favorites would probably be Amnesiac and Kid A. But truthfully, I love all their albums and have never been disappointed by one.

Anybody here into Charlie Mingus? Mad skills on the bass. I love him.
I love his 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat', tribute to Lester Young, played by Jeff Beck.

They're great, aren't they? About time for a new album, no?

Have you ever heard the New Pornographers? Ignore the name if it worries you because they only chose it in reference to some doofus who called rock music "the new pornography", but if you like Shins, I think you might like them -- intelligent power pop with great hooks.

You are right. I love them. Thanks! I love their '60s tendencies.

By the way, Gardener, nice to meet you.

Wow, I've never heard that one. Must be a beauty.

Isn't it great that no matter how much music you listen to, there is always so much more to hear?

Hey -- nice to meet you, too, MM!

Glad you liked em.

If you see an old dude driving down the road in a twenty five year old Volvo bouncing around in his seat, you'll know it's me listening to the song Spanish Techno.

Well, the first time I ever played the Brian Eno cut "Babies on Fire" and heard the Robert Fripp solo, one of my Advent speakers spontaneously disconnected itself from the input jack, slipped outside and commited hara kiri by falling on a piece of the glass shrapnel caused by the shattering of my living room window.

Thankfully, the doctor was able to repair my bleeding ear drums, the only lingering side effects being a slight dispensation towards drippage from time to time.
